Is anyone using AMSOIL engine oil in their MM and if so, please tell us exactly which one and what viscosity and how often will you change it... I'm getting ready to make the switch and need to know....

Thanks,
Donald:confused:

Donald,
I used Mobile 1 5-30 and a Mobil 1 filter. There are plenty of threads you can look up on this subject. Bottom line is you don't have to use 5-20. That is for polution & mileage, not because of "tight Tollerances".
I changed at 3,000, and will change again at 6 plus. Make sure you have the oil filter number from your manual if you go to other than a Ford,Lincoln mercury dealer. Nobody seems to be able to find an 03 Marauder in their data base. Have them cross ref your Motorcraft filter.

I do,I do.

5w-30 every 3.000 miles

I use this one (http://www.amsoil.com/products/asl.html)

Will the" Motorcraft FL-820-S" oil filter work on the MM?

Yes, that is the correct filter for the 4.6L DOHC. They're available at most if not all Auto Zone stores ($2.99 in my area)...and of course at any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer (for like $7.00 or more).

Don't be afraid to use Amsoil!!! I am planning on switching to Amsoil, oil, air filter and oil filter.

I usually use Conklin (which is very good, not markted to the public). I never hear the valves tick after a oil change like I do with conventional oil. Synthetic, IMHO, is the only way to go, ecspecially in a performance motor.

Now I know there are those who will say they change their oil every 3000 miles and never had a problem. That is perfectly fine if that is what works for you. But if I have an extreme situation (loose coolant) I want to be confident that the engine is protected. That I know I can get from Amsoil or Conklin.

RF Overload-
Thanks---Glad it's the correct one--though so--since my Vic and Bird use same too--but with the MM's size, even though it's still 4.6, wanted to check---cause I have a few ready on the garage shelf....again ..Thanks..

OVERLOAD?!

Why you little... :uzi:

Just kidding...lots of people misread my sig (some of them on purpose)...but I've had it so long I'm used to it... :cool4:

I think every 4.6 ever made uses the same filter...

Mike what is that Mobil-1 Oil Filter number you bought? :help:

2,080 miles on my MM now and I plan to change at 3,000 miles.

Have not used Amsoil filters since I cut one open, real disapointed, but I think their oil is ok. I use Amsoil in my Valkyie Motorcycle but plan to use Mobil-1 5-30 in the MM.

I have been using Mobil-1 filters since they started making them on my Lincoln LS and the wife's Jetta. Great filter and their filtering capabilities are without a doubt a cut above the rest! :burnout:

Bill,
The Mobil 1 filter is M1-210. Fram is PH2.
The Mobil 1 filter was $9.95, but seemed to be superior to the other filters.

At the risk of getting flamed, I would respectfully suggest that, if you want to use synthetic oil (which I think is a good idea), use Mobil 1. This is based on years of experience as an engineer working with HD off-highway engines. There is still lots of snake oil being sold in the oil, grease, and lubrication marketplace. Amsoil may be fine oil but how do you really know? Mobil has much deeper pockets for research and much more reputation to lose if they put a marginal product on the market. It is also an oil that is used as a factory fill in the Corvette and some other higher end cars.

I've been using Mobil 1 5w-30 for years in my normal service vehicles as well as 15w-50 in a towing vehicle during the summer and in some commercial air-cooled engines. Never a lubrication problem and I run my vehicles to 180,000 to 225,000 miles.

Just my 2 cents. It's also a lot easier to find.

Just to add from experience on the Amsoil side. I have been around Amsoil products since the 70's when my dad started using it. I have seen some incredible results with their products. My mom had a Chrysler with a Turbo and anit-freeze got into the engine. Amsoil protected the engine and turbo. The engine was taken apart by the dealer and there was no abnormal wear. That was almost 5 years ago and a neighbor down the street is still driving the car with well over 100,000 miles on it on the same engine.

I have seen great results of their grease as well. Guys who do a lot of fishing love the grease because it lasts and lasts. They are not repacking their trailer bearings every month. I have used other Syn. grease and not have the results. The test I have done is taken an old blender and tried to mix up Amsoil grease vs. other greases in water. Of the ones I tried, the water turn to mud, except Amsoil. In fact it is hard to wash off our hands after packing bearings.

So, I would say with confidence that Amsoil, Mobil-1 and Conklin (another brand I have used) are good products. I would not hesitate to put any of them in my Marauder.

Just my .02 worth.

Thank's for the info. guy's I'm thinking about Mobil-1 in mine. I know that Ford puts synthetic but I think it's a synthetic blend. Also thinking about a K&N oil filter. I used them on my Mustang 2000 GT. What due you all think.

Bob:

The oil Ford puts in at the factory is a 5W-20 Synthetic Blend...I've actually seen it for sale at Wal-Mart...

I won't start the whole viscosity debate again, but I put Pennzoil 5W-30 Synthetic Blend in mine at the first oil change (at 1000 miles) and again at the most recent one (4000 miles). I'm using the Motorcraft filter...used to be a FRAM man exclusively, but I've been scared off by recent bad press. I'm probably overreacting...they DO have a name to protect, after all...same with K&N...I've never used one, but they have a good rep, so I can't imagine they would sell a crap filter; I just figure I can't go wrong with the factory one...

Just my $0.02
