It's time to plan our third annual Euro-Marauderville weekend in Germany.
I held off planning for a while in the hopes that we could join in on the same dates as Marauderville 15 stateside but I've learned that there won't be another Marauderville in the USA this year so I guess it's up to the Euro crowd to keep the tradition alive.

Euro-Marauderville 2017 will be held on September 1st-3rd in Paderborn, Germany.
Our official hotel is the Road House Hotel located at a truck stop just off the Autobahn A33, this is a newly build 3 star hotel which is easy to reach and always offers the best rates in town. Nothing fancy but I've had friends staying there before and they all liked it. I will be handling the reservation I just need to know how many rooms we need and for how long you will be staying.

Friday: Arrival day, there will be a table reserved for us at the Miss Pepper American Restaurant in Paderborn at the same truck stop as our hotel so everybody can enjoy some drinks as no more driving will be required.

Saturday: After breakfast at the Road House we will hit the road and convoy over to the Bilster Berg Drive Resort. This is a newly built race track and automotive proving ground about 20 miles east of Paderborn where manufacturers of high performance vehicles and automotive supplies go to test their new products in secrecy. The track was designed by world rally champion Walter Röhrl and is said to be one of the most challenging circuits in Europe. However unlike the world famous Nürburgring this track is closed off to the public with heavy security on site so you can only go in by appointment which we will have the chance to.

Upon returning from the track we will go past Paderborn in the opposite direction to a little village where I was born. My grandfather owns a little shack out in the woods over there which we can use to have our own little barbeque before heading back to the hotel. Public barbeques are illegal in Germany so we couldn't just have one in the hotel parking lot.

Sunday: On Sunday morning there is a little American cars & coffee meet at our hotel where we can participate. This is a regular event taking place on every first Sunday of a month hosted by our local American car club the "Paderborn County Cruisers"
For those of you who don't need to be on the road home straight away we can also head over the Wewelsburg Castle. It's one of the few trilangular castles in the world with a very interesting history, most notably during Third Reich the SS occupied this castle and used it as one of their headquarters. The leader of the SS had bold plans for this castle to become the "center of the new world" following the "final victory" he planned a massive monumental estate stretching for miles so a concentration camp was build nearby to house all the workers for this project which was of course never finished. When American forces divisions closed in near the end of the war, the SS set the castle on fire and fled so by the time American troops reached the area it was completely burned down. The castle was later restored as a war monument and now houses a war memorial, several museums and a youth hostel.

Once again please help me spread the word to make this event even greater than last years!

Hi Marvin:

The new shirts will be arriving at my house by July 5th. I'll ship them to you the next day. You should have them by July 27.
I changed the design on the back to show the Bilster Berg track, an aerial view.
Enjoy the shirts.

I should have them by July 5th, at the latest. They will then be shipped out to Marvin the next day.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Don't forget to get a shirt. I shipped 14 shirts:
2 Med, 8 Large, 4 XLarge

I had to guess at the sizes, but that grouping worked last year, and the year before.

Unfortuately we won't have much of a turnout at this years event as this is a busy time of the year for people so most of them can't make it.

So far we only have 5 confirmed entries so for next years event we already decided to move the dates to spring time.

Dereck, would you like me to handle the hotel reservation for you or do you prefer to book it yourself to give you more flexibility?

Would you be considering April, May, or June for next year?
Joanne and I might be in Italy in May.

Hi MGDriver

Dereck, would you like me to handle the hotel reservation for you or do you prefer to book it yourself to give you more flexibility?

I am actually fighting a conflict of interests to be at the meeting, at the moment there is a 95% chance I will be at Miss Pepper's because I can never resist a burger but only a 1% chance I will stay over for a couple days.

Should know the definitive plan later next week.

Dereck

We are not sure at the moment but probably will be at some point during May.

Okay Dereck, keep me updated on how your plan turns out in the end. I have completed the hotel reservations but if you do decide to stay an extra night or two, you can still book your room here: http://www.roadhouse-hotel.de/en/

Furthermore, the European Marauder Crew has been invited by Stuttgart based company Old School Custom Works (http://www.oldschoolcustoms.de/), one of the countries most renowned American classic car importer, to join their annual GM B-Body meet "The B-Day" on September 16th, 2017 where we will be meeting up with the European Impala Crew. So far 3 Marauderers including myself have confirmed to join this epic Impala vs Marauder standoff. I will post some more info soon if anyone else is interested to join us.

Hi MG Driver

Well I can confirm I will be at Miss Peppers on Friday for the burger but will be driving straight back afterwards.

Another slight disappointment is owing to work commitments my girlfriend Jane cannot attend so my buddy Baz (who came to Miss peppers in March) will be riding shotgun

The Old School Custom Works meet sounds interesting, maybe I will have to come to that one to make up for only doing a partial Euro Marauderville

Thanks for the info Dereck, I'm still glad to have you there even if it's just for the burger.

Old School Custom Works is a great place and the owner is a lot of fun to talk to. They want me to confirm the number of cars we'll be bringing by the beginning of September so basically you have until Euro Marauderville to decide if you can make it to Stuttgart. It's a single day event but they start relatively early at 10 AM in the morning and it's open ended, last year I've been there until midnight, so you should be looking to spent at least 1 or 2 nights in a hotel. I'll let you know about local hotels in the area.

For driving to Stuttgart from the UK I recommend taking your usual route to Cologne and then head south from there. There's a quicker route through France that takes you past Reims and Metz but motorway tolls in France are horrendous.

Hi MG Driver

Well I can confirm Jane and myself will be at The Old School Custom Works so there had better be somewhere in Weinstadt that does a good burger, we will be staying overnight and driving back Sunday so inside information on a hotel could be useful.

I had looked at the possible routes to Stuttgart and was wondering how much tolls were in France, looks like Cologne and head south it is.

Take care dude

That's fantastic news, Dereck! Will be amazing to crash the B-Body and Impala SS meeting with 4 Marauders.

This is a hotel I'm booked in at, they have a fantastic burger restaurant on site too. I would suggest staying for 2 nights to drive out on Friday and return Sunday

Hotel am Engelberg (https://www.das-engelberg.de/)
Ostlandstraße 2
73650 Winterbach

The meeting starts at 10 AM on Saturday and we need to be there half hour before it starts because we have a reserved spot for our 4 Marauders on the show grounds so we need to be there ahead of time to claim them, everybody who hasn't made it to the show grounds by 10 must park outside in the visitor car park as they will close it off.

Driving through France would cost you an extra £50 in tolls whilst driving through Germany is basically free and the actual difference in distance is only about 20 miles.

Hi MGDriver

I cannot arrive on Friday due to work so will be driving overnight leaving my hometown about 7pm Friday evening. My cross channel train pulls in at Calais at 2am so arriving at the show by 10am might be a little bit of a squeeze depending on traffic, if I get to the train early I may be able to take an earlier train which would take the pressure off, maybe you could use your influence with the organisers to let me in if I arrive a little adrift.

Oh yeah I booked a night at the suggested hotel

Dereck

I spoke to the organiser on the phone yesterday and he said he'd be willing to make an exception just for us. I'll be there early Saturday morning to help setting things up a bit and will then reserve 4 parking spots for us Marauders in a row and instruct the staff let you guys in after closing time.

You won't be the only one to come in later as Thomas from Switzerland told me he's been booked in for a night shift that Friday so he probably won't make it for 10 either.

Well what can I say about this years Euro-Marauderville last weekend? First of all September is a bad choice for hosting a car meet, out of the 10 people who wanted to attend only 5 were able to make it and only 4 were able to stay for the whole weekend. Thus I have decided to move next years Marauderville into May in the hopes of getting more people to attend.

We met up on Friday night at Miss Peppers American Restaurant on the Mönkeloh Truck Stop off the Autobahn A33 in Paderborn, Germany. Unfortunately I forgot my camera at home so I only have a crappy cellphone picture of the Marauder lineup that night. Our British friend Dereck did another one of his famous burger runs, traveling 600 miles from England and back on a single day just to meet us for a burger because his work schedule doesn't allow him to stay the weekend. The rest of us spent the night at the Road House Hotel on the truck stop.

The next morning I was able to take photos of the Mercury lineup at the hotel after breakfast. I purposefully don't say Marauder here as we had a guy who came out in his Grand Marquis.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119592/fullsize/dsc01641.jpghttp://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119594/fullsize/dsc01647.jpg

After some pictures we left the hotel and headed out to our first stop at the Wewelsburg Castle which served as an SS headquarter and concentration camp during the Third Reich. Again it was picture time.

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119597/fullsize/dsc01664.jpghttp://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119598/fullsize/dsc01666.jpg

We had a look around the castle and its attached museum, photograhpy was forbidden inside as it serves as a memorial to all of those who died in the nearby concentration camp during the Third Reich.

To be continued in the following post...

Upon leaving the castle we stopped for some more quick pictures with a nice backdrop.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119606/fullsize/dsc01734.jpghttp://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119607/fullsize/dsc01743.jpg

Then we continued to the next town for some lunch and of course the cars needed a drink as well so 3 thirsty Marauders emptied the local gas station of a tiny German village, that guy in his little Skoda probably wondered why he couldn't pump any gas.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119610/fullsize/dsc01761.jpghttp://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119611/fullsize/dsc01763.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/1119629/fullsize/img_5992.jpg

I took no more pictures on that day although we still went for a nice cruise through the beautiful the countryside which I got a video of that I might still upload.

On the next day we hit up a small American car show organized by the local Mustang club. People loved our four door Mustangs as they called them.

After the car show it was time to say goodbye and hopefully until next year but no Euro-Marauderville ends without a group photo with the "Rebel With A Cause" Banner in front of our cars.

Euro-Marauderville Statistics:

Marauders in attendence: 4 + 1 Grand Marquis.
Nationalities in attendence: 3 - Germany, England, USA.
Miles travelled: 1220 and that's 1960 kilometers for us metric folks.

Dereck (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=10951) - 03' BLK - Somerset, England - 600 travelled miles
Esilar (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=15433) - 04' SB - Berlin, Germany - 270 travelled miles
MunsterBro95 (https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=20648) - 03' SB - Kaiserslautern, Germany - 240 travelled miles
MGDriver (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=19288) - 03' BLK - Paderborn, Germany - 110 travelled miles

Euro-Marauderville 2017:

Our forth annual Marauderville will be moved from September to the month of May next year in the hopes of finding a more suitable date for everyone. It will most likely be hosted in Paderborn again as we couldn't do some of the activities that were planned for this year because we weren't enough people, our visit to the Bilster Berg Drive Resort was cancelled for that reason as they required a minimum of 20 people for their tour and we were only 7 so hopefully we can do that next year.

I put my Marauderville III shirt on as I read your email. While not with you in person, I was with you in spirit.

I took my '04 Marauder out this weekend for a car show. It was the first Marauder many of the car owners had ever seen. It feels good to drive a rare beast.
