View Full Version : X Pipe on Stock Exhaust

I would like to install a X-Pipe on my MM. Any options available that allows me to run with the stock header and cats setup and or modify if needed.

I live in CA, so i would like to keep the rear cats or swap them for high flow cats.

(came across some scavenger X pipe on sale in craigslist and wondering if i could possibly run this)

Thank you.

Why do you want an X-Pipe??

I want more of the distinctive sound (maybe some added power). Living in CA i don't have much of a option to run full set of headers. Unless i do the full Swap from a Mach 1/Cobra Set-up to keep the full set of Cats, as i seen some people have done.

FYI previous owner swapped the stock mufflers for a Magnaflow sets, but also welded the mid pipes to the rear exhaust, so i have a full one piece from the cats to the tips. anything i do to the exhaust will require cutting and welding unless i replace the whole exhaust kit.

x vs h pipe is minimal at best power difference. h pipe known for better low end torque . x pipe can be a raspier sound. it's all personal preference. i have xpipe and its going back to an h pipe for my tastes. do what makes you satisfied

as far as i know it will need to be fabbed in, buy x pipe and fab in the piping

Personal preference but my custom X-Pipe sounded like 2 Hondas with "Fart Cans"......zippy and raspy!! :argue::mad2:

IMHO an H-Pipe sounds better on small V-8's depending on the mufflers you use!!

Would you be interested in selling your old X-Pipe.

Also if you don't mind could you please describe your current Exhaust set-up?

Chard, not only do X-pipes sound higher-toned and somewhat raspy, they really do nothing on a stock setup. They also can move the torque peak higher in the RPM, while these motors really need the help at the low end, which is one reason they came with an H-pipe from the factory.

Now if you're changing cams, adding nitrous or forced induction and headers, then yes, an X-pipe can be beneficial, but don't expect to feel any difference without supporting mods.

My MM is actually missing the H Section on the Exhaust.. I may just need to get it redone then.

Thanks for that, Gordon...a very well-produced video.

I really thought there would be greater differences between the H- and X-pipe, but the basic concept was proven.

I like my X-pipe - mufflers must be going as the car seems louder lately

I loved my X with Magnaflows. Hated it with Flowmasters and not really into the sound of the Stainless Works.

Stock exhaust with Magna Flo X-pipe with the 2 hi flow cats and shorty headers.
Not raspy at all on my car.
No power gain but love the sound.
Gonna ditch the shortys for Cobra cast iron manifolds.
Steering shaft hits header sometimes even with the motor mount spacer (don't like that).

What size shim? I put a 1/4" or 5/16" under both of Lowbucks engine mounts a few years ago on his turbo car with shorty's and all was well.

Thank you.

If your Marauder comes up for STAR testing, you will fail with aftermarket hi-flow cats! The stock part numbers stamped on the cats is actually inspected.

Really?!? Cool, thank you for the information. Now I know, I won't mess with the cats and I'll concentrate on building the cat back

I looked into exhaust mods in CA 12 years ago, and other than louder mufflers there's no point. I'm stuck with low flow cats and small diameter pipe. If you can come up with something that gives a heavier sound and adds any HP at all, and is still CA legal I'm all ears.

Whatever I installed would have to unbolted and the stock pipes put back on every other year. I installed delete tips from Wes at Innovative Interceptors and left it as is; that did give a healthier sound, but not like some of the new mustangs I hear around here these days.

LMAO! That's great. But why spend anything? I'll just lean out the window and scream "VROOM VROOM!!" as loud as I can while I'm out and about. I may get a little hoarse, but I'm sure it will be impressive. [emoji15]

Problem solved! [emoji6][emoji41]

For my MM not needed I'm already rattling city blocks with my pipes already. :D
