So going back to the track tonight, last time I went I just left the car in drive and floored it. Is there any advantage to shifting manually?

Turn OD off and let it shift on it's own.

What does turning the OD off do? I'm barely into 3rd when I cross the line.

For some reason the car feels like it shifts harder if I do it manually. When I shift manually it barks the tires on the 1-2 shift, if I leave it in drive it doesn't. Not sure what the difference is. Car has 4.10, Lidio Tune, JLT Cold Air.

shifting manually is very hard on the trans..these trans were not made for that. You'll have more rpms with OD off plus the OD bands are weak and don't hold up to WOT

Leave it in "D". The trans will shift faster and better. Do you have a tune? I'd also do the J-Mod.

Could somebody like a thread to the benefits to this J-Mod. Interested. Thanks, appreciate it.
Sorry to get off topic

I have Lidio tune, trans has 125K on it right now, I'm just waiting for it to let go so I can get a modded one and stall converter.

When you put it in neutral rev it up and then put in gear yeah it will shift harder and probably bark the tires.

If you want a lower time leave it in "D".

If I waited for it to shift automatically I'd be waiting a looonnnggg time!

With that said.. When I was auto I learned the quick way that these ECM's are not as fast to respond as I was to shift, couple that with an older trans and well.. I saw 6,800 twice shifting at 6,200 and my trans was in good shape.

The OD band applies in manual 2. Big No-No

At the strip my best times always came from:
OD : 'Off'
Trans in 'D'
Load converter to about 3,000 rpm.
Let off brake, while simultaneously flooring it on last yellow light.

Keep manually shifting it, you'll get your wish....

That worked good for me N/A.
Now it just lights up the tires at the tree. :)

Well my best was a 14.86 followed by about 3 15.02's and a 15.18 just seems like it should be quicker with the mods I have (4.10, JLT, MSD street fire coils and Lidio Tune). Wondering if I should try a Marty'O tune? My best ever with that combo was 14.68. Tried both 91 and 93 octane tunes and didn't make a difference.

Oh and I could only load converter to 2500 anything over that tires would spin stationary, track prep wasn't very good last night.

Your saying on your 14.73 ET you had a 2.242 60 foot, on my 14.85 ET I had 2.2561 60 Foot, I would say that is pretty comparable especially when you look at the MPH 93.91 vs 94.22. Either way no tire spin, she had good grip off the line.

No what I am saying is a 2.172 60' equals a 14.554. To get a lower ET lower your 60'.

"Oh and I could only load converter to 2500 anything over that tires would spin stationary, track prep wasn't very good last night."???

Exactly, 2500 was my max stationary, tires would start to chirp after that, 2500 and let off brake no tires spin off line.

What was the temperature and humidity at the track when you ran?
the difference between a cool, dry 50 degree night and an humid 80 degree night is surprising.

BTW: Just read an article about a test of the new Demon in hot temperatures and 1,000 more feet of elevation....
The advertised '9.80' E/T ballooned to an 11 flat.

when in manual mode the trans line pressure is max, thus the hard shifts, if the trans had the J mod and shift kit ,with the right tune the tires would bark ...lol

unless the trans is fully built and designed to be a manual shift the electronics are faster, most times when they dont shift right it because the tuner has set up the RPM points which in fact it should be set to MPH which is more accurate.

put on some nice drag radials and get your 60s down and the car will ET better.
Drag racing is all about acceleration.

For some reason the car feels like it shifts harder if I do it manually. When I shift manually it barks the tires on the 1-2 shift, if I leave it in drive it doesn't. Not sure what the difference is. Car has 4.10, Lidio Tune, JLT Cold Air.
