I was sitting at home today (10:40 pm) and I suddenly heard a car alarm - honk, honk, honk... so long story short - it was mine... and if my neighbours didnt hate me before, they do now! I had to put the key in the ignition to get it to shut off.. not before a few people came out, anoyed probably...

now what could have done that? I didnt think we had a shock sensor... the car was undisturbed as well...

any ideas?

You didn't accidentally press the "panic" button on the keyfob did you? I've done that when putting the keys down or shoving them into a pocket quickly. Pressing the panic button again shuts it off.

Andrew:

Mine did something similar about 2 months ago...the horn started blowing randomly and erratically...sometime just a toot...sometimes longer...I ended up disconnecting the horn (it was late at night, like yours)...I forgot about it for a few weeks until the wife complained she tried to blow the horn at some nitwit and it wouldn't...in the meantime, I had installed my new Dennis chip, so the battery had been unhooked while I did that...so anyway, I hooked the horn back up and it hasn't happened since...that was about a month ago...damned if I know...maybe unhooking the battery reset some module... ????

Fourth Horseman knows what he's talking about.I've done the samething.Hitting the panic button again is a lot easier then disconnecting the horn.

Granted, but both sets of keys were in plain site, and untouched, and mine was an intermittent thing, not like an alarm that was triggered...it would beep once...then maybe 30 seconds or a minute later, another beep or two...then 5 minutes nothing...then more beeping...etc...

My issue was not exactly like Andrew's, I was just relating that it happened all of a sudden and for no reason, like his...

hehe... I thought of the key fob thing... too bad they were tucked safely away in my pants in the other room (I'm on call for EMS tonight so everything stays in the pockets)... so thats not it :)

And it was definitly the alarm... nothing erratic about it - Honk, honk, honk - and the lights flashed too - headlights then side lights and back and forth like that...

hmm... I guess I'll just have to move :)
