View Full Version : Marauderville 2018

Good time to start thinking about where Marauderville could be held next year.
The 'Powers that be" generally like to have submissions in by the first quarter of the year, so they can decide on where if there are multiple entries.
Unfortunately there weren't any submissions for 2017, so we went Maraudervilleless. Let's try and avoid that for 2018.
Any part of the country is fair game for a meet up. :)

How about the Philly area?
You can visit Longwood Gardens (30 miles for downtown Philly). The Battleship New Jersey (across the river in Camden), the Franklyn Institute, and then there are the Cheese steak sandwiches.....

X2 Philly area or Northeast Maryland...Cecil County dragstrip, lots of Steamed blue crab restaurants, Aberdeen Proving grounds and the chesapeake bay are minutes away...
Hagley museum in nearby DE is cool, it is the original DuPont gunpowder works from the 1700's, has a working machine shop powdered by watermills and overhead belts, they do demonstrations and recently had about 1000 cars there at a car show.. don't underestimate Longwood either, that is 1100 acres very well maintained was owned by one of the DuPonts still can visit his mansion they have fountain/light shows and musical concerts and fireworks every single weekend in the summer..and the Fire museum about an hour south in Towson has all kinds of old firetrucks and apparatus. Lancaster county PA is the heart of Amish country about 45 mins north...

I'm going to suggest a middle of the country area so our left and right coasters neither will have to drive across the entire country to attend. Let's just throw out Branson MO. Panther Nationals have been there in the past with good results.
Also i live near Branson.

Start the planning, pick a team, coordinate a host hotel, develop an itinerary covering 3-4 days, and submit a proposal. I look forward to seeing the results.

Typically what months do you shoot for and does it have to be around car shows or is that just a plus and perk of all the cars got together just thinking out loud

Typically they have been in Sept, Oct, but if the peeps have enough notice it can be anytime. Just don't want to conflict with Louisville in April. Marauderville has been a good venue to show off the area the organizer's live in or near. In the past over the three days it has included a car show, some sort of history venue, factory tours, etc. It can be whatever the organizers want it to be.
Usually arrive on the Wed evening then do stuff Thurs, Fri, Sat, and go home Sunday. Depending on what the venues are there has been 1 or 2 things each day.
I think there is a thread somewhere that describes the generalities and specifics of what is expected from the organizers. A great hotel is premium as we spend quite a bit of time smoozing in the parking lot or the hotels lobby.
We found when planning MV9 getting in touch with the local Chamber of Commerce was a great place to start as they have relationships with the local hotels and attractions.:)

You are all out of your mind thinking about bringing nearly 50 Marauder’s to Philadelphia. I’m a little over a hour away and wouldn’t think of parking my car in Philadelphia. Look at the Marauder’s for sale on eBay and craigslist, that’s the land where marauders go to die or get stolen and stripped. Traffic is chaos as well, I overwhelmingly pass on the Philly idea.

I hate to ruin everybody's Philly parade, but it's never gonna happen. It's one of most inaccessible cities in the country. It's like going to New York City and we're never going to have a Marauderville there. The Schuykill Expressway is a disaster to get into the city and 95 normally just as bad.
My goal is to have one a little farther north in Bethlehem. I wanted to do it last year, but was told it was too late to proceed. I'm gonna try to get it together this year.

Chicago had one 2 years ago?, maybe 3..which doesn't mean there can't be another. All the suggestions in the world mean nothing, zero, nada without a few area members putting together a proposal with all the requirements. They don't just happen all by themselves. Be active and participate if you want it or sit back and see where and if it will fall

Yes VEGAS WAS FUN--The ONLY thing we could have done better was a Marauderville night in old Vegas ALL TOGETHER... and to have hired a professional photographer with long lense to take photo with Marauder all the way across the top of HOVER DAM.
DAMN that would have been epic!

Derek, you and Paul are spot on that any attraction in Center City Philly is no place to try and have Marauders meet up. Good idea for the Bethlehem area. Will look forward to what you can come up with.

Looks like Kansas is off the list with such a welcoming and arrogant attitude. There are about 40-50 people who regularly drive long distances to attend Marauder Events. That is good let's eliminate possible proposals based on a perceived attitude. There is nothing wrong with firing people up to get stuff done. Ill be sure to change my wording next time as not to upset grown adults. Some of you are way to serious. Do not question my participation in this community I am a regular at Louisville, maybe that is part of the problem. I hope there is a legitimate proposal from someone that still has a passion for these cars as well as this community of very diverse owners that is always evolving and changing.

The simple fact that we have to submit a proposal instead of the powers that be getting something together on their own shows that Marauderville is dead. Sorry, not sorry. Get off your arse, plan the event, tell us when and where. If you don't have time or interest to do so its time to hand off the reins.

If nothing is submitted, this is what happens. If they take matters into their own hands and "make" an event happen then people will follow to that event. Interest into these cars is declining every year and the average age of ownership is going down as these cars trickle into lower values. People younger than 30 are not going to take the time to price hotels yet alone plan a schedule for an event that may or may not happen because it interferes with a sight seeing trip to Alaska for the committee.
I don't have an issue with the way this has been ran in the past, I'm just giving some constructive criticism to help the event go forward.

Seattle, I am leaning towards July so that we may piggy back on Mustangs Northwest's Mustang Roundup, the largest annual gathering of mustangs.
The Roundup hold's their track day on Thursday at Pacific Raceways formally known as SIR, a track about an hour outside of Seattle, I went a few years ago and IIRC it was about $150 which is about as cheap as a good track day gets, and all Ford powered vehicles are welcome, they have a mandatory drivers meeting Wed night so arriving Wed and driving the track on Thursday will be a optional part of the trip.
Friday and Saturday we will break off from the Roundup and see local attractions such as:
Seattle stuff: Seattle Science Center, Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the 1st Starbucks
Cruise (3hr 1way) to the Pacific Ocean, great picture opportunity will all marauders lined up in front of the ocean. The drive has nice views along the way. The city of ocean shores has plenty to do and see. Also a potential option is a group fishing charter, salmon season should be open in July - although I am not sure what we would do with our catch.
Cruise (2.5hr 1way) to the Bavarian theme town of Leavenworth, plenty to do and see, drink beer and eat brats and pretzels, this could potentially be moved to Sunday night, or Monday night, as an optional overnight stay in the themed town.
Cruise (3hr round trip) around Whidbey island in the Puget sound. Take one of Washington state's ferries across the water, stop and visit the historic Fort Casey military fort. Another great opportunity for some group pictures, explore the fort and the beaches of the sound, lighthouse ect. Return trip through Deception pass with great views.
Redhook brewery tour - Redmond WA
LeMay - America's Car Museum - Tacoma WA
The Museum of Flight - Seattle WA
Boeing Factory tour - Everett WA
Sunday join back up with the Roundup for their All Ford Show and picnic in Bellevue WA. This is a huge show with plenty of cars to look at and people choice award's. In years past they have included Crown Vic and Marauder Categories' thanks to our attendance and they would certainly welcome our group in. It would also serve as a platform for our internal MV awards. They have multiple food trucks, a dynamometer, shwag vendors and plenty of sun/shade.
Seattle-Tacoma international airport is large and has regular service to all parts of the country for those who would not want to make the long drive.
Not a full proposal, but I have put some serious thought into it. IIRC proposal submissions are usually requested in March so I think I still have some time to work on more details, but I hope this post will generate some excitement and let you all know that I(and some others who's help I will certainly require) are serious about making a go of this.

Seems appropriate

Seattle, I am leaning towards July so ......Plan it and we will come. Just asking for an early warning on dates, so that we can ask for time off. July is prime vacation time, maybe some of those with kids can make it with school being out. Looking forward to the cross country trip northern version.

I just submitted a real offer before 2018! It took me about 1.5 hours to do. Will anyone else stand up? It is really easy find a drag strip or road coarse and provide website links to the committee. Also provide enough other links for other events to fill a few days within an hour of two.

I can't take the time or spend the money required for a 1000+ mile round trip (from northern Indiana) by car. I suspect that I am not alone in this. Have it in Seattle for example, and the only people who will probably be able to come live to the west of Phoenix, are retired, or can afford to have their MM trucked in. Just sayin.

Seriously? This is a national forum. Whatever the location, it’s going to be inconvenient for somebody. If Indiana is picked, it’s 10 hours for me, but about 30 hours for anyone from the West Coast. Maybe we should all show up at your house to make it convenient for you?

agree on track events. Just isn't right to take our MMs to a distillery, etc. and not have a drive-it event with some form of drive-speed-distance thingy. Shelby club formats of drags, road track, vendors and beauty contest give all something. Dinners every nite are great get-togethers.

Due to a misunderstanding between the myself and management my proposal for this year was not accepted. That being said this was my proposal:
I have been to many of the events and feel this location meets many of the requirements while offering something different.
WATKINS GLEN NEW YORK:
I tried reaching out to the BMW club to run the course on their track day but they were not responsive. Even if a track event cannot be managed there is always the option to drive the course as a guest in one of the track cars at 55mph. Not as good as the Marauderville Daytona or Indy but very similar. Here are the details on the guest driving event...
http://www.theglen.com/Guest-Info/Drive-The-Glen.aspx
There is a track which seems reasonable for our club and is only 1.5 hours from Watkins Glen which means many of the other events listed below would also apply as day trips.
http://www.empiredragway.com/track-rental.html
In addition to the raceway the Watkins Glen state park is very impressive and very close.
https://parks.ny.gov/parks/142/
Watkins Glen is at the bottom of Lake Senneca which is surrounded by wineries.
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...6!2i484!4f13.1
As well as breweries.
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C....0.LtPOth0VAhM
Activities near Watkins Glen include:
This is mainly a library but does have a few cars on display. It would be 1-2 hour stop max.
http://www.racingarchives.org/
https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en...1-9lkWYsD0ERv3
The Corning Museum of glass is very good and very well known as enjoyable by almost all visitors an would consume most of an entire day in the itenerary.
https://www.cmog.org/
Also near Corning is a glider museum:
https://www.soaringmuseum.org/
I visited Letchworth State Park which is 1.5 hours from Watkins Glen and is the most visited state park in the United States and after visiting I know why. Excellent easy place to visit for an afternoon.
https://parks.ny.gov/parks/79/details.aspx
A half hour from Watkins Glen is the Curtis Museum:
http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/
An hour from Watkins Glen is a Casino:
https://www.tiogadowns.com/
And we also have a boat cruise option.
https://www.senecaharborstation.com/
As you can see their are many options.
I would be willing to do some of the work but would need some on-site assistance with hotel/track rental etc.
Based on the feedback I still think their is some interest in continuing this event which now will have to be a 2019 event. I agree with many that if we say where they will come. If there is enough planning time a really good event will occur. Their are also enough options above that could be voted on to decide on to make this a group effort rather than a small committee selecting some of the options.
I do not want to see this event end and that is why I put the time in to put this together.
Does this plan have enough support to make a 2019 proposal for MVXV? Who in the area could support some of the groundwork?

Not declined by admin. Admin mis-understood the communication of the information. I am not going to place blame on the moderators but I will say the process is more confusing than it should be.

Anyone else up for a possible weekend trip to the area to help scope out the area? Only 200 miles due north of Carlisle. It does have possibilities!
Tim, it doesn't have to be an "official Marauderville" , just a group of friends getting together for a fun weekend, many meet ups / events have happened just because car... Sometimes Marauderville gets to be too big, as in a lot of work. A scaled down version like the Autumn Brewery Tours, The meet up at Capt Dan's CrabHouse, Carlisle PA All Ford National, the New Hampshire meets, etc works out just as well, with less logistics issues and costs. We don't need t shirts, goodie bags, raffles, etc. Yes, it's a nice touch, but a lot of work to put together.
Any other thoughts?

Really want there to be a MVXV. Meetups are easier but the neat thing about Louisville and MV is the volume of cars that show up. Nothing is cooler than 50+ in one location.

Thanks Tim for your efforts on a MV. The Watkins Glen area does have a lot of appeal and your suggestions sound great.
We have been a part of two MV planning committees, one was with HammerDown for MV9 and the other was MV5. For both, we took a lot of time to visit proposed sites and find a good hotel. Even driving the routes is a good idea to know traffic and obstacles to be aware of with having so many cars. We submitted a proposal with a detailed itinerary and hotel details plus a proposed time frame.
As Ken and Connie mentioned, we would also be up for a road trip to scope out the area.

I think we had 30 Marauders/40 arrendees at Las Vegas... That wasn't a bad turn out! And it was FUN. Looking back I wish we had planned more night time group activities... But hey, it was Vegas, and a Marauder is going to Maraud in Vegas.
Some one needs to step up and plan.
Thank you Bluerauder... Great historical data! 3 Awards? Embarrassing.

It looks like All Fords at Carlisle is slowly becoming the yearly Maraderville. And even Carlisle is losing cars. So Sad.
I have no problem showing up at Carlisle for a 1st Place plaque every year... But it would get old...

In addition to the raceway the Watkins Glen state park is very impressive and very close.
https://parks.ny.gov/parks/142/
Watkins Glen is at the bottom of Lake Senneca which is surrounded by wineries.

As well as breweries.
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C....0.LtPOth0VAhM
Activities near Watkins Glen include:
This is mainly a library but does have a few cars on display. It would be 1-2 hour stop max.

https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en...1-9lkWYsD0ERv3
I have spent 2018 revising the plan and getting more detailed information. I sent Mercman, RF Overlord, and MM03MOK all PM's with the revised details. I also have sent the revised details to mm.net. I have received no feedback.
Does anyone have a way to contact the management to determine if my revised details are being considered for a 2019 Marauderville?

Your planned has been laid out since May and looks fantastic. I think they’ve had enough time. You don’t need the ownership’s blessing. If their panties are in a bunch over the name, call it something else. Pick a date, I’ll be there, and will help anyway I could. I’m sure others would be willing to help. I’ll gladly spread the word on FB once a date is set.
