What are you preserving it for, the day you die?

My buddy told me "Not driving your car to preserve it is like not banging your girlfriend so she's in good condition for the next guy". The black is gorgeous. The reflection is simply incredible!!!

I'll probably put a couple thousand miles a year on it. Not gonna be a daily driver though.
Right now I'm about 6 hours into a complete detailing. Engine compartment, interior, some minor paint correction and a Zaino polishing. Then I'll be painting the calipers and insides of the wheels black. Also put some ruby red reflective Bob White decals on the rear bumper.

Preservation vs. recreation, comes up a lot on this site, and my motorcycle sites. Yeah, I guess there's satisfaction in merely owning a thing. But to put a thing to its intended use, and to do it with gusto... that my friend, surpasses mere satisfaction, and elevates the experience to sublime.
In other words, drive the piss out of it!

I brought it home 2 weeks ago and its been in the garage since.
Need to get it appraised before I start using it. Probably won't do that till next spring. I will be taking over to a local muffler shop soon though to have some Flowmaster Super 44's installed.

why does it need appraised? regular car insurance won't cover the value..they will cover blue book, sometimes blue book plus when in great condition. If you want better coverage, then you need to get "agreed value" insurance thru either your company if they offer or companies like Grundy, Hagerty etc..Plenty here have insurance thru companies like that for anywhere from $10k to $40k..premium is based on agreed value in the event of a total loss. must be garaged, not driven daily or as back up transportation etc.

I hope to see this thing next spring since you are local :coolman:

Also, Grundy or Hagerty insurance are great options for high coverage on your car, you put the value you want on the policy and it’s cheaper than regular insurance. I’ve use it on my old Trans Am before I sold it.

I got mine like a mirror in the inside . now I just spray wax em .wow factor 100. that's raw alm . do it rite and it will shine like chrome

Want to have in writing the real value of the car not the insurance value in case it was stolen or damaged beyond repair.

I know right, I was surprised to see it wasn't taken. Although it would not allow me to put a space between the 2 words.

That would make the spokes less noticeable. I want them to be more noticeable. ;)

Auto settlements do not use BlueBook, settlements are based on the actual price the totaled car is selling for within a certain radius of the insured's zipcode. 5 units are located, allowances are made for condition (this is how you get higher value if yours was in better than avg condition) & mileage, the 5 final adjusted prices are averaged and a settlement amount is found. This is how the settlement allows you to "replace" your vehicle. Most people just use the $ as down payment to upgrade to a newer/better vehicle.

Antique/Modified stated value policies are the way to go, as you say, for OP's post. I sell JCTaylor & Hagerty. Hagerty has by far the best/loosest usage rules I've found. They even have a usage class that allows using up to 60 times a year to commute to work.

Agreed Value* is just that, you and the insurance company "agree" on the value.

"Stated Value"* frequently means the most an insurance company will pay. This is used when an insured wants to insure the auto for less than its ACV*.

ACV* is everything is considered in ascertaining the value. Typically what you could buy a similar Auto for in your area including sales tax.

*Note: Check the policy definitions and terms of the policy you are considering purchasing.

Took the car out for the first time since I brought it home 5 weeks ago. Been detailing the car every chance I had. Its like a black mirror on wheels. 99.9% optically perfect. Thanks Zaino! Did the whole interior with Adams Leather Conditioner. Smells awesome. Tires and engine compartment done with Adams Tire shine which also works great on plastic trim, wheel well liners and weather stripping. Painted inside of wheels (and calipers) black to get rid of that awful whitish aluminum look. Really brings out the spokes which now could pass for chrome thanks to Zaino products. Brought it to a local muffler shop to have Flowmaster Super 44's installed. Sounds so much better. Put about 40 miles on it then back in the garage and wiped down with one of the best detail sprays you can get....Surf City Garage Hot Rod Protective Detailer Spray. Probably take it out one more time Thanksgiving week then that will be it till next spring. Bought this car mostly to look at, put in shows and preserve. Will never be used as a daily driver. Nice to have a car that you hardly ever see, so rare. :burnout:

Gotta luv it! :burn:

The only pics I have right now are on my flip phone (:o) so they're not that great. And from what I've read here it's difficult to post pics.
But I will try when I get some spare time.

These are the ones I ordered Charlie....................

They are a little shorter than the stock ones so they had to add about 4-5 inches of pipe on each side. Took the guy about 2 hours to do it and they charged me $250. More than I expected but well worth it. ;)
