Send it back to ford and tell them to fix the Year/Model.

After 15 years, Ford still can't get it right.

It's true. It was originally called Mercury Grand Marquis Marauder. So it's
not surprising that this keeps happening.

Same here. Keep trying to tell them my fix is better than Fords.

The "M75" body code in the Vin is for a Grand Marquis LS. The "V" is what makes it a Marauder. Ford just goes off the body code. This shouldn't happen to 04s as they got their own vin code. M79.

Mine's an '04 and the card read the same.......but mine was built in late '03 so that might be why??

These cars were originally gonna be "CV Blackhawks"......all Black and looking more like a CV Cop car!!

Guess they were trying to breathe new life into the Mercury Brand......turned out unsuccessful, huh??:(

Got mine yesterday. My wife asked if I was going to have it done. I told her no, the lights are working right now and a guy can fix them better than Ford on the forums. Into the garbage it went.

You guys are overreacting. I also have a real 96 impala and on the vin sheet its listed as a 96 caprice classic.

Actually, according to Steve Babcock the Motortrend story is conjecture. Ford and Mercury both wanted to do their own respective projects, and the final decision was made by Bill Ford himself after sitting in the back room listening to Ford and Mercury make their case. Only one division was going to get a performance Panther. Mercury got the nod as Bill Ford wanted Mercury to be the companies Pontiac(performance)division. The 5.4l was the go to engine after the 5.0 pushrod motor was eliminated(good story there), but clearance issues relegated the Babcock crew to the DOHC 4.6l. out of the Aviator. To bad the Cobra engine wasn't ready in time for Marauder production, we could have used the extra 90 hp and whatever extra tq that engine had.
When Elena Ford took over at Mercury she envisioned minivans, and Mercury went the way of the dinosaur. :)

YES! And you gotta know this has helped keep the insurance LOWER all these years.

I smile when Greco said it was a Grandmakeys... and my insurance was only $281 per 6 mo 300/100/300.

I have an 04 DTR and it is also recorded as Gran Marquis by dealer computers.
