View Full Version : BLUECAR Down. Need Suggestions On Rebuild! Is this the Engine section!?!?!?

I finally hurt the BLUECAR a few weeks back. My mistake not being disciplined to keep my foot out of it on unknown fuel and leaving traction control on my accident but also knew it would happen one day no matter what. I lost a ring land on #7 ouchie but it is what it is. I parked the car. No need to cause further damage but it actually runs just fine! LOL. So bare bones is the head will have damage and possibly the cylinder wall on #7. So I kinda searched around for an engine ready to go it looks like that is difficult to find. I was hoping for an easy button but no such luck. So I think I am going to yank this thing out and tear it down. Obviously the heads are going to be gone through, new chains guides and tensioners, etc. But the rotating assembly I figure I can do rods and pistons and leave the rest alone. I ask this because this is my first hurt Ford product I am a closet GM guy see turbo buick in signature. :) Look, this BLUECAR is my ride, I love it, but it is not a racecar. It never will be. It will never see more than 12 or 13psi of boost on maybe a ported stock Eaton. So I do not need overkill, but I do not want to throw a stock block back in it and blow it up again. I am open to all suggestions but remember I am cheap, really cheap, I hate spending money and do not have the coin to buy an Aluminator. I am just trying to get this thing back on the road but do some mild upgrades. And go.

forged pistons and rods of your choosing or recommended. Stock crank is fine to use. Mine is stock block, Diamond pistons, Eagle rods and Nitride coated stock crank (previous owner did this) I was running 13.5 boost..now have ported blower, lower pulley swap, killer chiller and am at 17 psi..just picked it up today and drove it..670 miles.

Mmmmmm, 17 psi. No wait, not racecar ;)

Take the engine out of Tagalong's car and let her drive the Monte while she gets "her" engine fixed.

mine is not daily driver..if it was, I would have left it at 13 psi..

Machine the block and heads, forged pistons and rods, drive.

Just curious; how does traction control factor in with damaging the engine?

If your cheap. In my opinion this is the best route (did it myself). Grab a SB from here have a local shop do the heads and BAM. You're done.

The car went to 2nd grear at wot the tires spun at 6200rpm. Traction control came on I saw the light. It may have hit the limiter I am not sure it happened quickly. I am not saying that traction control cost me the engine I am saying it certainly didn't help.

But you have a warranty on an engine they know will be pushed. They also sell the parts for the motor to rebuild yourself.

Exactly :2thumbs:

Pending your skill level of course.

I've been down this road twice of which you are experiencing. You'll see after some research.

3700 is cheap. Do the heads say 400 and swap parts. No brainer with warranty.

Ill build it myself for less. I will not spend 3700 on a short block.

3700 is not too far off from what the shortblock/heads will cost. Are you going with a forged crank? That’s the doozie

No, stock crank. I guess I should start a go fund me LOL

You want coated Diamond Pistons on top and bottom. Buy Molnar rods
Make sure the 2nd ring is gapped at .024

I laughed when Zack posted after me.

Cheby parts are WAY cheaper.

Got this figured out. I still have my best paint award made by Jerry from Chicago Marauderville. I texted him he says he still has the rod cap! Hell yeah car is fixed! :D

well, since no one has offered, i'll give you $8.00, maybe even $8.88 for it and you wont have to make these decisions:D

I got a box of those rusting on the floor in my garage - my 8th cylinder was just fine.

Just got mine back a couple weeks back, built real nice and it's still sitting not completely done. 0FG.

Need to plumb up the intercooler again after pressure testing that system. Bit of a lower pulley wobble (hopefully just install or shim of some sort) and need to revise tune. Also has a nasty manifold exhaust leak.. Tons of money spent and it's still not done. FML. Maybe throwing more money at it will get it motivated.

I second the Coyote swap! Score you some junkyard gold out of a wrecked Mustang (us Mustang guys like to slam our cars into walls, curbs, people, other cars, etc.) and roll!

It's not a racecar folks. I already spent too much money on the DTR. Rods and pistons in the blue car and slam it back together

I believe your “wobble” is caused by a centering ring that metco was happy to supply to me as long as it’s a metco lower hub. The hubs ID is larger than the stock Marauder cranks OD. Relief is needed in the back of the hub to accommodate the spacer. They offered to machine my hub when I called them. Great people over there. :2thumbs:

I have a DSS forged crank now. That is interesting. I'm going to take it all apart and see what I find this weekend. Hopefully they just need locktite and maybe some lock washers. Thanks for the headsup
