View Full Version : Raced a Porsche

I was in the left lane doing 68 MPH, and this guy in a Porsche comes up fast behind me, and then takes the right lane and hammers it thinking he's gonna pass me on the right. Since the traffic was very sparse, and there wasn't any cars in front of us for almost 1,000 feet, I hammered the gas, and he tried to keep up, but couldn't. I pulled ahead about 5 car lengths,

So after that he got behind me, and I was slowing down just coasting. he then gained on me, and I hit my turn signal and moved to the righthand lane. we were then both doing about 70MPH again, and he tried again to take me, but the Marauder showed that euro trash who's boss.:D

I'm really sorry to say, that I'm not even sure what type of Porsche it was since he never got in front of me, and I was concentrating too much on the road and what was ahead to be looking back a whole lot at his car. The front of the car and the shape of the headlights looked like it was a 911, but it might have been a Boxster. I'm just not sure. I just know that he tried very hard to get by me. We were traveling very fast. And he tried twice, and was stomped both times. he then pulled off the highway by taking the next exit.

A Boxster's 0-60 is about 6.7-8

A Boxster S's is around 5.7
a Carrera? 5 seconds

a 911 Turbo....4.2

911 GT2.....3.8

Which did it feel like?

Okay, we will rule out what it wasn't. It wasn't a 911 GT2 (out of my league). And it wasn't a Boxster (it was faster than that). But I know it wasn't the headlights of old. Some of the models made in the last couple years have slightly diffeerent headlight shapes, and a slanted looking nose/trunk (I mean the 911 types). That's what it looked like to me. Again, I'm sorry for the vagueness, but this was an intense race, although it didn't take me long to beat him. But considering the fact that it began at 70 MPH, then that makes for a harry situation. One that can get real ugly very quickly if you're not paying attention to the road.

If I had to guess, then based on your info, I'd say it might have been a Carrera.

About two year's ago, MotorTrend featured the Porsche GT2 and I thought their numbers on it were even better than 3.8. My jaw dropped and nearly hit the kitchen table. Seems it was in the 3.2 or 3.4 range. Of course, my memory is slipping. :(

The Boxster is pretty distinctive in overall appearance ... especially from the rear end. Fortunately, you never got to view it from that angle. Probably a Carrera anyway. Nice kill !!!

Awesome kill...I wish I could be a bystander and then a passenger and hear that supercharger whine. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....

Alright BILLY!!!!

The S/C Marauder can hurt some feelings, that's for sure! More congrats when you look at James' pics and i.d. the enemy craft!

I have tangled with the tiny convertable one center fart pipe of a Boxter several times. With even my setup, I damn near run them over from a 45 mph start. He might out run me in the long haul, but once I pass em' , it's over for me, he's gone.

And BTW: Unlike Rice, Sauerkraut is healthy, tasty, and convienent. "The results of a recent study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that sauerkraut is a cancer inhibitor."

Therefore, between rice kills, add a healthy helping of Krautmobile to your diet.

Glad to hear of the Road Kill schnitzle Billy. The other day I had a Carrera try and pass me, I guess he got upset after I gave it a little gas going around him. I never did let him get back out front, but before anything fun happened he turned off the road and we went our seperate ways. :(

<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll say one thing for these guys, they're the most fun to race out of anyone, because they hate getting beat so much that they're very persistent, and so they give you a chance to smoke em more than once.:D With drivers of other vehicles, once you beat em once, they give up.

Yeah Jimmy, the reason I knew exactly how fast I was going is because other than the times I happen to get into a race (and that isn't a daily thing. Infact it usually isn't even a weekly thing) I usually make a focused effort to keep the speed from going past 70 MPH because that's where the line is that many Police offers in my homestate draw as to weather or not they will pull you over on the highway for speeding (I'm speaking of 55 MPH zones which is mostly what we have here). As far as the Supercharger whine, you really don't hear it hardly at all in my car, or outside of it. And trust me, I know it's working just fine. The Dyno said 400 HP to the wheels, and 360 RWTQ.

Alright BILLY!!!!

The S/C Marauder can hurt some feelings, that's for sure! More congrats when you look at James' pics and i.d. the enemy craft! It looked just like the pic of the 2001 Porsche Carrera. I recognize those ugly headlights.

LOL.... Yeah, my Marauder likes kraut. She told me that it tasted great!!!.....

Sweet. Yes, it bothers them that their precious, cherished, and prized car that cost them atleast double of what we've paid for ours, cannot keep up w/ours, modified or not. And you can tell that simply by how intense and persistent their reaction is. This has happened to me in the past as well when I drove the 73 Vette that I had paid $7500 for and beat a BMW that looked no more than a few months old, and was a $50,000 car. That guy was NOT happy! He tried and tried to keep up, but failed every time. It was fun for me though.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Reaper948

Of course it is...,technology has far surpassed just using bigger cylinder engines...
An M3 with an inline 6, 3.3 liter does 0-60 in 4.8 333 horsepower
A Mitsu Evo with a 4 cylinder Turbo does 4.8 --2 liter engine

So yes, beating a 6 cylinder can be cool.

Yeah but Bill's got 400 and somethin at the rear wheels. :bounce: :pimp:

Then maybe the guy w/the six cylinder should think twice about taking a run at a V8 - even if it is in a "Grandpa's" car! lol :>

<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

That "6 cylinder" that you speak of has gotta be 800 LBS lighter than my car if not more, and it costs double what my car has. And like Krytin has indicated, he's the one who tried to mess w/me and lost. So what was I supposed to do? Let him win because he has a "6 cylinder"??? And what about the "6 cylinder" 911 GT2 that Reaper has brought up that will run high 11's in the 1/4 mile? Do we back down to challenges from those cars too by simply saying, "hey, that's a 6 cylinder, so who cares".....So you see, these days it doesn't seem to matter how many cylinders a car has like it did back in the 60's. Back then there wasn't any Hi-perf 6 cylinder engines since they didn't have the technology to produce any. I still prefer a V8 engine though. They sound the best.

Naw, but the guy had a PA system w/a loudspeaker on his car like Law enforcement has, and as he was pulling off of the highway after I beat him he said that some guy w/an old mercury who calls his car the "Ratsmoker" wants to race me too, and I thought "okay, bring em on"......BTW I'm sorry that you must be really bored w/those two threads that make up the entire "Classic Lounge" :baaa:

LOL, come on Billy you know I'm just playin with ya.

Your not kiddin on the classic lounge part, in 40 years if you still have a Marauder you'll be on of the very few with one.

More power to ya, and keep safe on the road.

I haven't seen it, but I didn't think that this guy had a V8 anyway since i didn't hear a V8 rumble at all. But maybe we should cut this discussion short, cuz I'm not even sure what the boundries of this forum are anymore, and I'm tired of all the flack. people should just learn to relax and enjoy the ride.

well who has them on here? I never see them. How about you? Don't worry merc. my previous comment that you've quoted wasn't neccessarily directed at you. But if you felt like it was, then maybe it did apply to you too. I dunno. If the shoe fits, then wear it I guess.

I know this thread is a little by the wayside now....but this past tuesday at our local track, and unusual contender showed up.

A very bussiness like Asian fellow with his son show up in what appears to be a 2002-3 Porsche 911 turbo hard top. Looked like the thumbnail I attached below.

I traded few words with them, but did walk by gazing and said, "nice runs, pretty quick". His response was..."not bad for a 100,000 dollar car".

He lined up against pro street cars with slicks all night, and shamed most of them running consistant 11.2's with trap speeds of 132 mph.
He had odd plates though....OC's, known as Ohio Collectors. Difficult to acquire on newer cars and typically apply to older cars. Most applicants have them to avoid Ohio E-Check. Perhaps this car was further modified.

Whatever the case....it was faaaast!

Uh...yeah...if I had that kind of money to spend I'd buy one. Although a Marauder with that kind of money invested would be faster...but that thing is soooo sleek and refined and...the interior isn't quite right, (i.e. the steering wheel and radio controls)...but the 2005 is MUCH better looking inside.

I should mention I've been driven around in a non-turbo. Holy moly that thing was NUTZ (or...it had some really big ones)...75 in a 35 is fun in a Porsche. Amazing what can be done to a flat 6. It's a flat 6 right? Not inline?

Dr Caleb

Incorrect. Porche use a 'boxster' design. Pistons are opposed to each other - 180 degrees.

Look Here: (Boxster is similar to a flat 4)

There is a guy in our local street rod club that has a 68 Vette. He should give you his LP Frames...They read "A LITTLE HUMILITY IS GOOD FOR A PORSCHE" :D

I stand corrected, I thought flat and boxer were the same. Usually subaru comes to mind when I hear boxer...they use that design as well.

A boxer engine can be correctly called a flat engine. Porsche, Subaru, and others (I think Ferrari and Lamborghini have tried them) have used this design, as almost all piston-powered aircraft do. The only major change to the 911 type engine was the switch to water-cooling with the new 996 type.
