Are our exhaust manifolds the same as DOHC mustang? Anybody have the part number for the left? Tried looking at online dealer catalogs, but they seem to list the SOHC manifold.

Due to low demand, Ford Motor Company is no longer manufacturing the following part(s) you selected. Please contact your FordParts.com dealer (http://www.fordparts.com/ContactUs.aspx) with questions. 9430 & 9431" :(:depress:

The Ford parts websites were making me suspicious with their "SOHC" and "Crown Vic" descriptions, but those online catalogs are far from perfect especially when it comes to Marauder-specific parts.
I just need to extract the broken stud in the manifold I have, I'll see if I can find someone locally with an EDM bolt burner. Haven't done so well with the drill and easy-out so far.

Dennis used to sell the Cobra manifolds (I have them on The Blackbird). IIRC the outlet is angled differently so you have to fabricate the downpipes.

I have a pair of ceramic coated Cobra manifolds from MarauderTJA if you are looking for some.

I got a complete 10k mileage manifolds to tail pipe system. If your. In need of buy it. Or if you want just the manifolds. Lifespeed let me know.

I’ve just melted them out in the past with oxy-acetylene. Using a vice, just make the hole vertical and let it flow on out. The steel bolt will always melt before the cast even changes color. The threads are always perfect as well. Run a tap to clean it up and done.

I think this has been covered at length in this forum (what hasn't?)
Do the Cobra manifolds flow better than the Marauder versions? If so, would the gain be worth swapping out and doing the fabrication? My gut says no, but I'm still learning.
If so, Bad Merc, I could indeed be interested in your set.
Thanks, let me know.

On an N/A car, the gain from the manifolds alone wouldn't be worth it, even if you could do all the work yourself.

You believe a change from a stock Marauder shorty 1 7/8" header to a 2.5" (or bigger) longer set of headers would add negligible hp to a NA motor?

Another tool I should own, but don't. I'll find a way on Monday, nothing happening over the weekend.

I use heat and a left hand drill bit but you need to center punch the bolt first.

Does anybody remember that article where a guy enlarged the pipes from the manifolds to the cats, put on 4 Mustang cats, could have been 2-1/4", and got another 25 RWHP from a stock engine? Looked totally stock even if not strictly legal. Any detail on the write-up so I could Google it better it would be appreciated.
I don't recall if he upgraded to Cobra exhaust manifolds, may have left the stock marauder pieces on. I had a machine shop coax the busted manifold stud out, but now Lowndex has me thinking about Cobra manifolds. I notice our OEM cats aren't numbered. ;)

I don't think there is any gain going with Cobra manifolds. IMHO, headers are your best bet.

Of course they are, but I have to pass California emissions.

kooks headers have egr bung, upper cats with both o2 sensors each side not sure why that would not pass smog test, but we don’t have that here so when the TVs gets installed the egr will be deleted

Are there any bolt-on alternatives to Kooks or SW headers?

That was a good article, and although I am unable to find the Marauder cat/pipe upgrade article to link the results were similar: The biggest improvement to HP and torque comes from remedying restrictions after the manifolds. Things like press-bends and stepped-down pipe sizes should not be used. Not surprising, but this seemed to be more important than variations in the exhaust manifolds themselves.
The stock Marauder sizes are as follows:
manifold flange outlet 2.047" ID
manifold to cat 1 pipe: 2.328" OD (7-5/16 circ meas), 2.062" ID (calc'd from 0.133 wall)
cat 2 to exhaust pipe: 2.046" OD (6-7/16 circ meas), 1.78" ID, 0.133" wall thickness
The Walker CARB-approved replacement (http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/carb-converters/e-catalog-lookup/82522) for cat 1 for the Marauder is 2.25" ID. Another 1/4" of pipe diameter is a modest improvement. Unless a 2-1/2" cat is available, which seems unlikely, upgrading the cats and pipes to 2-1/4" is probably the best I can do. The cat 2 outlet choked to 1-3/4" from the factory is not helpful.
It will be interesting to see what the flange diameter of the Cobra manifolds is.
Thanks Badmerc, looking forward to putting better manifolds and cats in this thing!

The collector studs were the most difficult, had a machinist friend turn down a 10mm coupling nut to serve as a jamb nut. The reduced diameter is needed to clear the pipe ball flange. Got some 10mm "grub screws" online as the threads looked way better than stainless threaded rod made of solid chinesium. Plus they have a socket screw end to hold them while they're locked in place. Socal porting ground at the casting flash opening them up, plus the ceramic coating. Doubt it is worth any HP, but I couldn't put them on all rusty.
If I ever have to adjust the exhaust/cat configuration for emissions or other reasons the studs won't snap off or bend. Lots of nickel anti-sieze in there.
Spherical aberration of the camera lens makes the studs look crooked, but they're straight.

I do not understand anything you, but the parts look great.
BAD MERC gave them to. I want them back now. :(
Just kidding. You did an awesome job cleaning and adapting the parts for your use.
