View Full Version : If I used my MM as a donor...

How hard would it be to swap in the DOHC in say... an equal model year Town Car?
AFAIK, most everything should be "bolt in". It would have to be an '03 or '04 TC for ease of wiring, '05+ went to CAN communication. Don't want an '02- due to inferior chassis and more wiring issues.
If I had my ENTIRE, running and driving MM at my disposal and found a clean donor TC, how much am I looking at for integration? Programming isn't an issue, I've got a guy for that. Wiring isn't a problem, just curious what I'm in for.
There just isn't much out there for 4v panther swaps, other than "go find a Marauder". Welp! I already have one!

Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good Marauder to build a Town Car?

Yes...agreed.
Perhaps he is just trolling.

Jeeze guys...
If you look at my post history, you'd see that I LOVE my Marauder and I'm not at all "trolling".
That being said, in no way is my Marauder "perfectly good". It's dented, rusty, squeaky, and has 215k miles on it and counting. I drive her hard every single day and maintain her as such. That being said, the running gear is sitting there in perfect order wrapped in a fading body. She has served her purpose well but there's no way it has any value due to the amount of work that it would need to get to "show" status.
So my options are: Sell her to someone who is going to ruin it in 6 months, or pull the running gear, refresh the engine, and have all the pieces I need to build an incredibly cool (to me) sleeper TC. In a way, the MM will live on. Besides that, I do have an emotional attachment to the car. I was able to purchase it because of a generous gift from my grandmother, who passed away this afternoon at 95. I also noticed one day that the engine in my car just happened to be produced on my birthday. Fun fact.
So does anyone have any tips that might actually pertain to the swap?

Complete waste of time. You can throw bolt ons at a 2V and achieve the same goal.
Hell, a 100 shot and a tune and call it a day! Actually, call it an afternoon.. Instant 12 second car.
Unless you planned to throw BIG money at it with a whipple, fuel system, built trans and rear, anything less just isn’t worth the effort to gain a few extra valves.

at least 2 people have done a regular 4v swap into a vic on crownvic.net recently. Not to steer you away from here, might find some answers there as both swaps are still active in the process, final tweaking etc..
if you have to pay a shop to do it, it won't be worth the cost for 60 crank hp. if you can do it yourself or with friends, then who knows..it;s your car

Yes you could swap everything from The Marauder over to your 03 04 Lincoln Town Car you'll need everything though your wire harness your dash harness and your main body harness your engine harness ECM and your pats key system with your ignition I've done this for two people who bought wrecked Marauders from auctions yes it's very doable. I will tell you now it is a lot of work you've got a completely pull all your interior out your carpet out so you can get the hard body harness out the reason why I say to do it this way is because you'll keep all your sensors and everything running appropriately with the ECM. And you'll want to use your Marauder transmission with your Marauder engine you don't have to but I recommend it especially if you're a swapping to know for Marauder over cuz trash control and one last thing for the record. if you want to liminate traction control from a 2004 Marauder all you have to do is change out your abs motor and go with one that doesn't have abs I know this cuz I just recently figured that out as well. Now I can run any size tires I want on my 04 without that lousy traction control kicking in. I used an ABS motor from an 03 Crown Vic cop car. Wire harness plugs right into it no upgrades or wire changes needed. And no traction control lights or anything pop up on the dash. But as stated above by the other members unless you're going to build the motor up really big and go with a big Whipple supercharger it really isn't worth it just to get a 4 valve engine just my two cents

Why not take the money you'd spend for a clean donor Town Car (let's assume at least $2000) and freshen up the Marauder?
Wow guys, while I want to save Marauders too, there have been some pretty cool donor conversions. Zack did the supercharged Town Car. There's the Canada Mercury pickup truck done on a 03 Marauder chassis, and someone did a 69 or 70 Marauder with a gen 4 undercarriage.
Some searching should find these. If the body's shot why not use the other parts for something good? On the other hand, if the body's still good I say save it.

$2k won't even get me new bumpers. Then there's the rusty roof, fenders, rockers, rear quarters, doors, and that doesn't even get into the worn suspension parts.
Thanks though, guys. Sounds like it will take more integration than I thought. Maybe I'll just tuck her away and put classic car insurance on it. That way I can just go cruise once in a while when I feel like it.

I would totally swap a marauder drivetrain into a dark blue pearl towncar.
That or a old 64 4 door marauder, a 55 or 56 2 door Monterey , or most of all Mercury pickup trucks

I don't get the love affair with the 4.6L DOHC anymore.
When it was new in the Marauder and Mach 1 back in 2003 it was really cool and I loved it.
Yes, a little disappointing with 302 HP/ 318 TRQ in a heavy automatic sedan ...but it revved and sounded great.
But, today you can get a used Coyote 5.0 out of the junkyard with 133 more HP and 80+ more FT Lbs of Torque bone stock PLUS better gas mileage!
I wouldn't waste 5 minutes thinking about a 4.6L swap.

What year and vehicle would you suggest be a good donor vehicles for engine, ecm and harnesses.

How much HP do you want?
Ford Mustang GT 2011-2012
412 hp at 6500 rpm
390 lb·ft at 4250 rpm
Ford Mustang Boss 302 2012–2013
444 hp at 7500 rpm
380 lb·ft at 4500 rpm
The Boss engine is "the road runner" variant. It shares nothing but the engine block. All of the internals are upgraded for greater RPMs
Ford Mustang GT 2013–2014
420 hp at 6500 rpm
390 lb·ft at 4250 rpm
Ford Mustang GT 2015–2017
435 hp at 6500 rpm
400 lb·ft at 4250 rpm
Ford Mustang GT 2018–present
460 hp at 7,000 rpm
420 lb·ft at 4600 rpm
Ford F-150 2011–2014
360 hp at 5500 rpm
380 lb·ft at 4250 rpm
Ford F-150 2015–2017
385 hp at 5750 rpm
387 lb·ft at 3850 rpm
Ford F-150 2018–present
395 hp at 5750 rpm
400 lb·ft at 4500 rpm
Obviously the newer the engine, the more expensive it will be from a salvage yard.

you'll need a compatible trans as the cv, town car one is not. coyote ecm wont shift it.

So the 11-12 gt is the first gen coyote. I’m not exactly sure the best place to look for the wire harness transmission and engine, found just the engine for 3500.

Fix the Marauder, or sell it as is, then buy a wrecked donor car with a Coyote engine and drivetrain.

Custom car building is a personal thing and most times makes no sense to the casual observer. If it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, then DO IT!
I've spent way more money on my car than I could ever hope to get out of it. It's not about the money, it's about how it makes me feel....

A gooder swap would be a 350 small block Chevrolet V8
Use a 2GC Rochester for economy, or a 4GC for neck-snapping power
Lots more room to work on the engine
More parts available for repairs and more better horsepower
Draw an appreciative crowd at car shows when you open the hood
Everyone knows the SBC costes the least to build-up
For a mild boost, and better mileage, too, add a Turbonator
Summit used to have them, but they are still available from Ebay
Just make sure to get the dual-fan version
1.100%Brand new and high quality.
2.Enhance up to 10% on horsepower and with better economy mileage per gallon of fuel up to 30%.
3.With simple installation steps, you can enjoy the faster speed!
Provides more dynamic control over the intake system by forcing powerful airflow into the combustion chamber at high speed
Dual Fan Propeller Maximum Speed Movement: 55,000R/Min
Easy Installation and professional installation is still highly recommended
