I feel ridiculous for asking this but... I've had terrible luck with wipers. Everyone I buy does this skipping thing when I'm using them unless it is pouring rain. I don't know if this is inherent to the car. Like Jeeps have a hard time with them due to their flat windshield. But anyway, is there a wiper that you all use for the Marauder that has worked really well without the skipping/scraping action? Thanks.

I have tried different brands in the past, but now I have been going to the dealer and buying the OEM Motorcraft wipers without any issue. They seem to work fine.

do you use rain x or other water repelling product?

I've used blades from the most expensive to $1.99 cheapies, never had a problem like yours with any of them. Blades chatter if the glass isn't clean. Suggest getting some Glass Scrub at Walmart. The scrub cleans everything off the glass.

I find that the cheapest wipers work the best. The expensive, large, plastic framed variety don't seem to fit the curvature of the windshield throughout the travel. The cheapo metal frame crappy ones do. My .02.

^^^^^^^^^^ and when you have to replace them 4X per year anyways.

No, I don't. Should I?

Yeah, I know that when the glass is dry they chatter. But this is happening even as it is actively raining. I can slow it down but then I can't really see well. Even when the windshield has water on it, it seems to do it. Only when the glass is super wet does it not chatter. That's why I am fed up with it. But... I'll try your suggestion. And maybe look at a different style of blade. I really feel like it they are not forming to the shape of the glass well enough...

If you drive the highways often, the road grime/oil takes it's toll on the rubber. I occasionally wipe the blades with alcohol and it seems to help for a while. You'd be surprised how much gunk builds up on the blades.
I personally like Trico exact fit 22-4 for wipers and like others have said do not use Rain-X that produces the "chatter" effect.
The product Invisible Glass by Stoner is good for glass cleaning.

Chef, I have the same issue as you, only with my 2000 GMQ. I've tried all kinds of blades, new arms, at least 7 different cleaning methods...nothing works for more than a short time. I've pretty much given up on it ever being quiet. The Marauder has the newer-style (non-parking) wipers and I don't recall it being as bad but found the Michelin blades from Walmart seem to be good for short money.

i've found that using rain x type products and using wipers at full on create skipping, rain x and delay wiping, intermittent is better.

Thanks everyone for the input. Yeah, I don't use rain x or anything at all, except the blade. One thing... are the wiper arms not supposed to be able to bend all the way out like they do on other cars? The hood on mine keeps them from being bent outwards. I haven't seen this before on a car. But anyway, I'll give the blades suggested a try and I'll wipe them down as suggested too. Thanks

No, they don't bend all the way out with the hood closed.

Next time you clean your windscreen clay bar it to get all the little cruds off. I like Stoners glass cleaner too.
I've never had a set of wipers that worked as well as the OEM ones that come from the factory. Even the OEM brand don't work as well as the ones the car comes with. No idea why. I also look for rubber blades instead of vinyl ones. I find they work better longer.
Rain-X smears if you use the wipers and makes driving in rain with the wipers on difficult. In light to moderate rain I never use the wipers if there is Rain-X on the windscreen.

Cheapo ones FTW.
Plus they are a slim design and look good on the car. The fancy ones are always big and clumsy looking and look out of place.

I always try to get the Made in USA ones at CarPartsClub.com but wasn't too happy with the quality of the Vision Savers. But they also have Goodyear also.

Rain X is crap. Tried their defogger wipes and it just makes the windshield unviewable.

True. I can walk through the parking lot and see a lot of cars with those big fancy ones that look ugly and out of place. I had those for awhile. Never liked the look of them.

I've always noticed this about Ford products. My Crown Vic even has original parts that lasted longer than the Ford replacement/Motorcraft. I think its done that way on purpose.

I had these on my '94 MGM, and installed them on my MM shortly after I got it. No issue with chatter since.

Rain-X is nice, but only lasts a month and is too much work. I've used a product called Aquapel that is way easier to use, and lasts many months. It's pricey, but allows me to drive with the wipers off. Works best at speed, in moderate or heavier rainfall.
Here's a video showing how to apply it. I've done it twice now, and cleaned the windshield with nothing but methanol. I also acted quickly and was able to do all of the exterior glass with one cartridge.

I've found it's not exclusive to Ford.:)
