I visited a local car show/open run which takes place on a weekly basis. Lots of variety, 30's, 40's street rods & restored originals, 50's, 60's hot rods, late model performance cars stay in one section of the lot while the ricers with their boom boxes, strobes, neon, video systems, pneumatics, body trim kits, and paint jobs are in a different section.

I went over and checked out the "other side" and was quite surprised at some of the hardware. Some of the guys are running sleepers, as in plain wrapper Civic with turbocharged, intercooled boost systems using equal-length tubular headers and all the goodies to go along with it. One guy is pushing almost 500 FWHP (seems weird, doesn't it?) and doesn't seem to mind that pistons only last a couple of months between replacements.

I guess a lesson to be learned is to know what you're up against or it could be embarrasing!

Perhaps, but I have no respect for the "bansi" rice burners either. Those guys have more money than brains IMOHO. If your gonna burn your motor down frequently from making more power than it can handle, the owner should be at the racetrack earning some money for doing it. I think "The Fast and the Furious" glorified breakage and made it seem cool or something.

I've seen plenty of 10 second FWD ricers at the strip. There's at least one of them that leaves with the car on a flatbed and peices of their transaxle and/or motor in a cardboard box. Not impressive.

But, you have a point. I wouldn't want to run into one on the street. Although I must admit, it would be funny to see one of those idiots burn down thier motor right out on the avenue.
