View Full Version : EATC self-test fixed the problem, again

A few years ago after the car sat for two weeks, the a/c wouldn’t blow thru the vents. I ran the self-test, and after a lot of clunking everything worked great.

This morning it was cold for CA, 32, and the vent would only blow cold air. I thought it was the o-ring issue, but that is different symptoms. After the EATC self-test, got a good code, hot air is good, and all floor, defrost, front vents route the air properly.

So, the Self-test corrects issues as well as diagnoses them? I’m not complaining, but am wondering if these are symptoms of a future blend door problem?

Blend door actuator

Funny is I've read here where they had the same scenario and doing it twice sometimes fixes it for now

When you take apart the old bad actuator box, the 2 gears are plastic and one will have missing teeth. That's the reason it won't move the door

When I do the actuators, I swing the door back and forth a few times to make sure the door doesn't catch or is binding up causing the broken tooth

I bet it breaks this summer, you should order the ford part at rockauto

Yes to the blend door actuator. Have you replaced the O-rings yet?

Eventually the self-test won't fix the problem.

No, I haven’t done the o-rings yet as everything’s been working pretty well. I figured I was due though as the COT o-rings and the oil filter housing gasket just started having issues as well, and problems seem to come in 3’s. [emoji4]

I’ll get the molding off, (hopefully without breaking anything), and get some o-rings, size 007 as I recall. (I have tons of black ones in different sizes, but those are just plain rubber IIRC.)

Can the actuator be done at the same time as the o-rings, or is that a separate area of the system, requiring more of the dash to be taken out?

Thanks Bryan, I’ll go ahead and get the part. I appreciate the tip on the install. Guess I got a good run out of this one at 13 1/2 years.

get some o-rings, size 007 as I recall. That's the correct size, and make sure they're silicone.

I looked and looked, but could not find the part. I checked under Cooling System and Heat & AC, but no luck. If you have the time, I appreciate a link.

Actuator requires airbag, glovebox, air duct, its super tight but it's faster than pulling the dash

To pull off the pass side dash dot matrix, pull pass side corner where it's the farthest part to the right

Outstanding, thanks Bob! I’m relieved you can still get it. But I guess the CV and GM must use the same part.

One tooth breaks off of the gear in the blend door actuator. Cliffs: You got lucky
