I was visiting a local Police Dept, as a LE Officer I do that from time to time. As the Captain was walking me into the under ground parking area, I spied a "Black" older Mercury parked way back in the corner of the parking area, I could see it had chrome wheels from afar. I stopped and started walking over to the vehicle and as I got closer my eyes popped. It was a Black MM 2003 just sitting dust covered all alone! Tire were up, body was great, and from what I could see the interior was very nice also. What's the story with this car Captain, do you know what this is? He stated that is was "confiscated" from a drug dealer years ago and the Dept. use to use it as a undercover car. He said it had not be used a long time and had no idea what a MM was nor did any of the other Officers I spoke to. " It just something we parked in the back of the lower parking area and kind a forgot about" ! I replayed if you ever decide to sell or auction that car off please call me. The Captain stated he would advise me. Dale "407"

If it has chrome wheels they are aftermarket. Stock Marauder wheels are polished aluminum. ;)

+1 on this. I would do the same. If they're not using it, I bet they could use the money for newer upgraded equipment. You save the MM and they get the money. It's win-win for everyone.

I wish my department had a Marauder just sitting around, I’d throw a computer in it and make it my personal patrol car! :D

ITs all original the wheels are MM wheels just polish alum. The MM is in a dry safe quite place for now and no one knows what they have. So this Spring I shall make my move, we in LE watch out for each other and I believe the Dept would just like to get it out of the way and have it gone. I have trained with the Captain and asked to have first "dibs" on the "Old Mercury" that's just taking up space in the lower garage!!

If it's anything bigger than a small town, they have procedures for selling assets that usually involve a 3rd party and an auction process. This keeps them from doing things like selling the contents of the evidence locker to fund the Non-Denominational Holiday party.

This... I doubt they can just sell it to "joe blow" under the table. Not to say you and the chief dont have good relations... but as far as paper work and the such. Not sure how thats gonna play out. Keep us posted

There are ways around that, I have gotten many old police cars and/or equipment without "buying" them from municipalities.
