It WILL be worth the wait...

They are sitting around here too. I found 1 that had traction control and that dealer had 11 others without traction control. When I attempted tp buy it they only wanted to give me 7,000 for my 2000 Crown Vic with 25,000 miles on it, I took that as an insult and continued looking. By the way, my Vic is in mint condition.

Never trade a decent car in at the dealer...you'll get screwed every time...I'm putting my '94 Thunderbird SC on e-bay, and I guarantee I'll get more than the dealer would have given me...
7 large for a 2000 CV...ouch... :shake:

Tell me about it, and then the sales troll had the nads to say to me "it's a 2000... what were you expecting, Fort Know to over flow?" That's when I decided that it was time to leave because reaching over the desk and putting his lights out wasn't worth going to jail for ... cuz he was just a sales troll.

I just had a similar experience. Finally took the plunge and purchased a marauder today in the northern Chicago burbs. Brought my '96 loaded tbird in for a trade-in estimate, and they offered a measly $2600 for it. It only has 63k miles & is in great shape. I said no thanks but went through with the deal- got the '03 for under invoice minus $3500 rebate. Looks like I'll have to get the for-sale sign in the window of the tbird.
Didn't even turn on the radio on the drive home with the marauder. Just listened to the engine & exhaust. What a car!

Thats what my dealer did too. I brought them a super clean 95 Super Coupe with 30,500 miles on it!!!! in black they offered $3000.00 dollars on a trade in. I actually said "I should hit you for that" and he said "We could go $4000.00. I didnt do it, told him his parents were not married and to write the car up. First guy that showed up to look at my car from the ad in the paper bought it for $9200.00. Car dealers would sell their moms a bill of goods

Dont feel bad.. I had a 2001 Crown vic sport model (looks like the marauder on the inside without the nice engine) paid 25000 for it. Dealer did not send me the MSO for 1 yr so I could not drive it after the initial 30day tag expired. Dealers were offering me 14000 with 250 miles on the car 3 months ago, and it was in mint condition though it had sat at the original dealrs lot outside in the sun and elements for a yr. I finally sold it for 16,000 and had to do a seller finance deal to move it. Hope the guy pays me.. so far so good.

Topher:Welcome and congrats!! Enjoy the car!!!!!!
Hey here is a good one I traded a '01 F-150 last sept on my MM. This was a loaded truck, 4x4 8' bed reg cab off road package etc. less than 1 yr.old 5000 miles. Some dealers off only 12,000 for it, 29,000 sticker new! Got what I needed after a couple dealers. Made the deal on the MM and then talked trade. No trouble walkin if they don't want to talk.

A neighbor of mine was a used car dealer, they had a saying,"there's an A$$ for every seat",that's the way most of them view us.

Why would anyone consider trading a vehicle to a dealer? You can't get anywhere near it's worth. They have to make a profit after preping it for sale. And if your going to handle something to sell you might as well make as much as you can. The only reason to do a trade is if the extra work of selling it yourself won't bring you much more, as in the case of a thrasher. Otherwise take your time, prep it yourself and sell it private party.

One of the LM dealerships here in PHX offered me $10k for my '99 CV LX HPP w/56k miles.

With what the MM's are going for now they aren't making much off them, so they try to low-ball the trades. When I bought mune in Sept. before the rebates hit, and being one of only a few that have made it to the Northwest, I paid just under sticker for it. They gave me $9000 for a 98 Taurus SE Limited w/55k miles, all options. I could have likely got 10k for it private party but that was close enough.

You alway get less when you trade, but some people (and I'm one of them) don't like the hassle of selling it themselves.
I traded a '97 TBird LX LE 4.6L with less than 45,000 miles and all the options. Of course they tried to low-ball me ($4200 I think) but got right before I left ($7500).

When trading, it really doesn't matter what they show you for the car (per say). It depends if they take it off the new car price or not. When it comes to trading, it is the bottom line. What is the final cost to you. For example. Take the Marauder at 34,000 (round number). You want to come away with 25,000 difference with trade. You have a car that is only worth 6000.
Now here is how it could look
32,000 (to show they discounted the Marauder)
7,000 (for your trade).
=25,000
Or they could not discount the Maruader and show you this:
34,000
8,000 for trade
= 25,000
So it really comes down to the bottom line. What do you want to walk away with. I try to come up with a bottom number. Now I do watch what they are giving me, I don't want them to show me 2000 less then my trade either. :-)

Amen brother! It's the difference that matters. Like you, I know what my trade is worth and I negotiate for the drive-out difference.

Just for your info... we bought the Marauder on Ford's A plan. The price is pretty much set with no negotiation. On the A plan, the sales price was $30,911. Deduct the $2600 rebate and the "walk-out" price is $28,311, before trade-in negotiations. I handed over my '97 Tbird LX 4.6 with 89,000 miles for $2600 (the transmission was starting to stick in Park, the driver's seat was uncomfortable for me, and I was starting to get a clunk noise from the rear end). All-in-all, I feel it was a fair bottom line and got a lot of car for the money.
