View Full Version : Thinking of buying a 5.3L stroker for my MM

As stated, I’ve been thinking of buying a short block for my car and selling my 65k mile stock engine. Then maybe running 16 psi or so. Going to have a member here rebuild the tranny while I’m at it. What do you guys think of this idea?

All a stroker does is increase piston speed. You can accomplish any goal with a 4.6

Before you do it, run 16 PSI and have a ball trying to blow up the stock one first. Best bang for your buck. Guaranteed smiles included.

Sounds like fun to me. I just seen someone looking for a dohc for their project. I’ll try to get you connected

So you’re saying I’d be better off keeping what I have and replacing the rotating assembly in order to handle the added psi?

For that money I would just build a forged 4.6L , strokers are a total waste of money.

Stay away from increased stroke if you plan to drive it and care for the engine's life longevity down the road.

Build the stock motor once it breaks. That's what I am doing, currently in the broken stage still..

I’m convinced. That didn’t take long. What’s the recipe or post a link to it

I bought a Teksid block , Manley forged crank , Manley forged I beam rods/W ARP 2000 rod bolts , and Diamond fully coated pistons.

I also got ARP 2000 head studs , side bolts , and main studs.

Do I need another block?

No not at all , the WAP block I have needs to be bored 10 over so I just put that coin towards a Teksid , the WAP block will do everything you need it to do.

Point me to the parts I need. Crank, rods, and pistons, and etc...

Currently MMR is the only place you can buy a Manley Forged crank for the Mod motor , last I checked they were $995

I bought my rods from MMR as well , I have Billet I beams , but a set of their H beams will be fine for your build.

As far as pistons you need to have whatever block you plan on using checked to see if you can run a standard bore or need to have it machined (this is where an extra block really comes in handy)

Give MMR a call for current pricing on what your looking to do.

Lots of Money has been wasted on 4.6 stroker.

With that said, I would hope to use my stock block since you said it should be fine. I’d hope to go with the standard bore.

An alternative would be find a Cobra short block I’d guess. I’m wanting minimal downtime

I wouldn’t consider a cobra shortblock for your application, you would be better off with a 10.1 compression shortblock since your running a centrifugal blower , an 8.5:1 compression motor with a centrifugal blower would be a lazy combo on the streets.

Even NA? That doesn't sound right.

Given the prices on used pull-outs on carparts.com, I don't think it's worth the labor hours to remove it and ship it somewhere. They are not exactly money makers. I agree. Run it with a conservative tune and enjoy it while it lasts. It might last a hell of a lot longer than you think.

You also don't need a new crank, the OEM is fine for plenty of HP, still have mine. Though for another $995 it may be worth it to you

When I had my engine built it made more sense to get the steel stroker crank, 4.6L steel cranks are a custom order from the aftermarket.
