View Full Version : When time to get the transmission looked at?

I'm over 175,000 miles and feel like the last few years the shifting is only so slightly too long or delayed for the first shift or two. What are the warning signs on our cars to get the trans looked at? High miles (this seems obvious)? Check trans fluid? Stuttering or sudden shifts?
Just wondering if I should wait a few more years, lol (to get more out of my current transmission since it is probably fine for so many more miles), or if I should take it in and prepare for some damage to my wallet. ha ha

Has the transmission ever been serviced?

Everything still stock. Only had the fluid replaced by a stealership at 100,000 miles.

Would be a good time to change the fluid and filter. Inspect the pan to see if there is excessive build up of particles on the magnet.

I change the filter and add 4-5 Fresh quarts of Motorcraft Mercon V every 10,000 Miles. That should be Your regular service for it. I'm at 145k miles. Factory transmission with the Tune. It's pretty damn solid.

I’m following RFOverlords advice and not changing the filter, just the fluid every 3 oil changes or so. I have an Art Carr deep pan so that’s about 8 full quarts. I might change the filter at 150K, but from what I hear it shouldn’t really be necessary.
