I just received the Infinity 6800cs speakers that I ordered a month ago and plan to use them to replace the OEMs in the front doors. I think at least a couple of folks on this site have used this same set-up for the front and I have a couple of questions.
It looks like the sail panel is the best place to put the remote tweeter. If anybody mounted theirs on the sail panel, were you able to use that ball-in-socket type tweeter mount (the one Infinity calls the "I-Mount")? I would prefer to use it but it looks like the mounting clips for the sail panel would be history and like some of the door sheet metal would have to be cut away to acommodate the depth of the fitting. Has anyone tried this?
Any ideas on where to locate the crossover? Is there room in there to just leave it behind the door panel? I haven't started playing with it yet but is there a clear preference for using the reduced tweeter output on the crossover or the normal output level?
Finally, is that plastic adapter mounting ring for the speaker (what Infinity calls the "woofer") necessary for some reason or is it just a use it if you feel like it part?
Sorry for all the questions but I've never done car stereos before and any help/experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The sail panel would be a tough fit for the tweeter depthwise but it is absolutely the best location in any car, the A pillars are an option also but asthetically kinda weird.
The trim ring is provided because the woofer is a 5"x7" woofer and the cutouts in the doors and rear decks are 6"x8"s.
The crossovers will fit inside the doors. The speakers I chose came with outboard crossovers also and I used some velcro and mounted them on the inside of the door panel under and forward of the armrest.
I suggest leaving the tweeter on high, you can always turn the treble setting down on the head unit.
The "speaker installation" sticky located in the Garage is excellent and print it out b4 you start be mindful of the plastic fit clips on the swicth panels, they break really easy and are a pain to crazy glue back on.
Last but not least buy some "dynamat" or "cascade" or other self adhesive sound/vibration damping material for the doors and apply it once you have the panels off. You absolutely wouldn't believe the decrease in road noise and increased clarity it provides.
Good luck and if you get overwhelmed there are plenty of folks here that will help and remember Circuit city and most installtion shops only charge around $25 per door for installation.

Thanks much. Just what I was hoping for.
