Since I work for a Dealer and should be dedIcated to Ford. Talk about quality control. My new demo came in on Monday. A 04 Silver Birch Marauder. Well thank GOD our techs caught this when they prepped it. The cruise control didn't work. They sent it over to our high tech electronic techs. He checked it out. Seemed to be something with the switches in the steering wheel. He pulled off the airbag. Found the nut that holds on the steering wheel was only on buy a thread. He removed the steering wheel and found that it was not indexed when installed and therefore the splines were just about ingaged. He then found the wires to the swiched all smashed and cut. We got new switches for it. After he installed them and went to reinstall the steering wheel properly he found the steering wheel was a 10 and 4 o'clock instead of 9 and 3 o'clock when going straight. He then looked at the rack and pinion. The left side tie rod only had about 4 threads showing when the right side had about 30. They had to realign the front end. Luckily a factory engineer was here a witnessed it.
How could these A-HOLES let this car leave the plant like this. If our prep tech didn't do a good job and check EVERYTHING, someone could have been killed in this car. I'm sure the steering wheel would have come loose and you would have no steering. When they aligned it, they should have known something was wrong. Well I'm done my rant for now.

QUALITY IS JOB NONE!!!!!!

Although I like my MM, I have to agree that Ford's quality is highly suspect. Corporate America's greed for higher profit over quality has resulted in every other car being foreign on American streets. If not for competition we would be riding on buckets with wheels.

The guy we have prepping new cars has been a Lincoln Mercury Tech for over 35 years. He had some back and shoulder surgery a couple of years ago. He can't do any heavy work, so he just preps cars. He is the kind of person that you would wnat to prep your car. He checks everything. He is not flat rate so he takes his time. Luck for me!!!! RAY

Your 35 year veteran sure saved someone major grief !
Mistakes are prone to happen no matter what the product, but good to know this safety malfunction was discovered & corrected without personal injury.
Curiously, was it assembled during the last days/weeks of the model run, or dealer trade ?

I'll tell you why.Because all that Ford gives a **** about is getting the cars out the door.Said and done!
Ford digs their own holes and whines when they have to get out of them.Money money money $$$.

And then the UAW wonders where their jobs went!!!! Now I will say I've bought North American built vehicles my whole life (except for a Volvo 164 E that I picked up in Sweden and drove around Europe for a month) but I buy North American built cars (and trucks) because their products fill my requirements better. And I've had very good luck with 3 of my last 4 Ford built vehicles. One was a 2002 Sable that I got the transmission and front sway arm connecting arms replaced on during warranty. It's been fine otherwise. Sure hope I have as good of luck with the MM I should be picking up next week.

That is a shocker Ray, but how many can you say came in like that one?
Still, it obviously should never have gone past quality control at the plant.

Ray.....

I was under the impression that the Panther cars were made in "Non Union" plants in Canada???

It seems that all of my CV's and the MM are higher quality than the stuff made here...SAD!!! :o

Other than a few transport nicks in the paint and the cowl buzzing I had...Mine is GREAT!!! :bounce:

Marauderjack :pimp:

PS: Now that I've bragged.....the steering wheel will probably come off in my hands!!??
