I was wandering if you could put the 5.4 liter in the MM because that would be the sh**! and then s/c that bitc* you would be doing 0-60 in 4.0 flat and smoking all comers. when that day comes it will be a good day. I can't wait
Late, and look out

I wish you the best of luck finding a used 2000 Cobra R engine. Keep us posted.

With enough time, money, and determination, anything is possible.
Do you have the engine already?

No, but if you don't dream you don't have a chance.

I think Todd had mentioned something like this for the "secret project car" he has been working on. You might want to ask him.

Crap....for a second there I thought someone had finally done it. This means we still have to answer this question!?
Ford I guess wanted to go 5.4 but they couldn't "fit" it...which means they weren't willing to ration off any budget for it.

he said that if you change an engine size you are violating Federal Emission Laws (?) and he wondered what computer would control that engine
and he said you would have to modify brackets all over the engine compartment
Is it really this kind of nightmare?
I REALLY REALLY want the torque of a bigger displacement engine when I barely touch the accelerator and the car pushes me back in my seat (this is common for 350 cubic inches and over)
BOTTOM LINE
Who knows for sure?
Who did it or is doing it or has done it?
Look on the net...there are people putting V 10 engines in...
I will not be happy until I rule the line at the stoplight no matter WHAT is idling next to me...

yes I have all kinds of normally aspirated mods...

I think this takes us back to the original issue: excessive deck height. Our 4.6 DOHC is barely tall enough. (Anyone who has removed & installed the valve covers knows what I'm talking about!)
Anyone out there know the heights for each motor?
Peter,... I'm sure it's possible. Like you said people are putting V-10s in engine bays the size of ours. But, you'll need some very deep pockets!
Good Luck!

Deck heigth on a 5.4 is 1.5in. taller than a 4.6
BlackHole

Stroke for the 4.6 is 3.55 inches
5.4 is 4.12 inches thats really the only differance between the 2
as the pistons/crank can be swapped
But really the 2000 R engine is a redesigned Navigator 5.4 DOHC
with some suttle differances.

Hell, dump a 460 into it and go like hell. :burnout:
460 modded up in old Gal 500's are doing 9's with alittle Nitrous added. :burnout: (courtesy of Greg Cook.)

OK, I'm confused (not tough to do) - if the stroke is only .57" longer, the deck height should not br 1.5" higher. If the bore is the same - the stroke has to be longer so the crank can't be the same?!
If the bore is the same and the stroke is only .57" longer - get a cast iron 5.4 short block from Ford, massage (port/polish intake/exhaust ports) the 4.6 DOHC heads that came w/MM and bolt them together. The control harness & computer chip that ran the 4.6 will run the hybrid w/dyno tune for increased displacement.
Some tweaking of brackets for A/C, Alt. & P/S pump.
The tough one will be the intake manifold due to deck height change - maybe spacers (ghetto - but you do what you have to do)?
Mix in enough money and time and this should be able to happen.

The 1.5" taller deck on the 5.4 is from the 2002 Ford Motorsport catalog. In the back of the catalog is a listing of dimensions for most ford engines ever made. To the best of my knoweledge, this is the reason the 5.4 didn't make it into the Marauder. As I understand it With the re-design for 2003, the wipers were changed and some changes in the ducting for the HVAC on the front of the firewall left not enough clearance for the taller block.
Please correct me if I am wrong!

Wasn't questioning you personnally - no harm intended. I don't know either - thats why I'm confused!
Is it 1.5" taller from the crank center line or could they have added some depth below the center line to accomodate for the increased stroke?
I'd be willing to bet that a major factor for Ford to not try to put the 5.4 in the Marauder was to not have it compete with any of their SVT vehicles - they really seem to have gone out of their way to not promote the MM.

no, didn't think you meant anything by it. This was my first thought for the MM, get an alluminium 5.4 block bore and stroke... should be able to get at least 6.0L from it. Then I found out it just dosen't fit. I guess you could have the deck cut down, but you're talking big $$. I think there are easier and cheaper ways to get there. But then again, 6.0L running 8 or 8.5:1 compression a big kenne bell autorotor... that would be good.

Anything is possible. How much money do you want to spend. We put a Boss 429 in a Fairmont years ago. As far as the EPA is concearned it would not be legal. RAY
