Curious to personal preferences here in the board.

Diablo Sport Intune and the SCT X4 appear to be the current dominant tuners available for retail. Sent an inquiry to Superchips earlier inquiring about availability for the '04 Marauder. My Mustang came with a Superchips hand held the original owner purchased shortly after taking delivery of the car in 2005 - nothing on their website for F-L-M products currently.

Starting some lite 'tinkering' at the moment with the basics.

Absolute best money and time you can spend/save is advice above. He can adjust the stiffness of shifts (8 is great!), so the results are amazing.

SCT is pretty archaic when it comes to tuning the EEC-Vs. The most advanced and most supported hardware and software for the 03/04 Marauders specifically is the Moates Quarterhorse with TunerPro RT.

You can do realtime tuning meaning you write tunes and make changes WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. If your ballsy enough you can even make tune changes while at WOT if you have someone with you to not crash the car lol.

And the datalogging is 1000x faster and easier with ALOT more info than SCT can ever dream of.

And with the QH you have full binary access to the tune which means you can change output pin configurations and what not if you know how to write patches.

Also, with sct it takes about a min and 45 sec to write a tune. With the QH it takes about 8 seconds to write a full tune. Only 1/8th of a second to write a maf transfer change or spark adjustment etc whilw the engines running.

The custom tuning software is free TunerPro RT and the RZASA xdf file for the 03/04 Marauder.

If your looking to write your own tune then the Moates tuner might be what you want. If you want an awesome tune that will cover 99.9% of your driving needs that is ready to load then go with Marty at Mo's. Marty is able to make adjustments to his tune to fit your specific tastes, shift firmness etc.

Most "canned" tunes will be for a Mustang 4.6L DOHC.

its a free download all u have to buy is a moates quarterhorse

those come direct from moates.net for $250

datalogging is as easy as literally clicking a button, much easier with tunerpro than any other option out there

That's what I suspected. I ordered the K&N CAI last night from Advance Auto Parts online and ordered the SCT X4 7015 tonight from Summit Racing online.

Checking around tomorrow for someone local who will do the J-mod modification. Once I receive the SCT device I will phone Mo's Speed Shop and go from there.

My Mustang currently is using a 93 octane 'canned tune' from Superchips. My only real complaint is the electronic throttle is too sensitive when shifting the trans manually.

Alot of good info on this board - everyone keep up the good works!

Actually very easy to do.

I have a neighbor with a lift in his shop - I may run this and the cylinder head cooling mod by him. He builds funny cars and restomod cars like one sees at Good Guys shows.

About the tuner: MartyO stated as much - didn't realize he also retailed the SCT devices.

Rizzo's J-mod video is an excellent tutorial, but he isn't as active on CVN as he was. If you (or your neighbour) have any questions, contact 88grandmarq here. He is the king of the 4R70W.

If you do the J-Mod there are some parts you can upgrade without too much more work. Do yourself a favor and replace the tranny pan with one with a drain plug.

My SCT device arrived by FedEx yesterday afternoon - Yay! Open the package and the update requires Windows Vista. I’ve had nothing but Apple products beginning with the Quadra 800 in 1993 running OS6. Running Windows on a Mac prior to Intel processors (mid 2000s) required an emulator program. Motorola processors prior to Intel.

Beginning with the Intel era, the machines came preloaded with Mac OS running on an emulator program built in while Windows would run natively when loaded after sale. I’ve never had a need for a Windows program before now. Bummer.

Packaging is intact and I’ve left the cover tape on the device. My K&N CAI device from Advance Auto still hasn’t shipped according to tracking.

I’m awaiting answers from a couple of local shops regarding the cylinder cooling mod upgrade, J-mod upgrade and the tail shaft lubrication mod upgrade.

Vista?! The only thing worse than Vista is ME (Millennium Edition). I have Vista on a laptop...it was the only OS offered on that unit at the time. It sucks. Big.

Phoning SCT tomorrow morning. A glaring oversight/omission IMO.

The Diablo Sport Intune I3 8100 (Ford) is compatible with both mac and window OS and both devices have similar features. I’m reading where tune files can be .bin, .ll3, .cef and perhaps others. I’ll inform the forum of my findings and my actions. Have communicated with MartyO. Received notice today that Advance Auto shipped my K&N CAI yesterday.

Return it to Summit.

Let me send you one loaded with a custom tune.

Save $50 in the process.

And the SCT will run on mote current software than Vista. I’m just not sure about the partitioned Mac and Windows approach but I suppose that might work as well.

I bit the bullet today. Ordered a refurbished HP laptop from Walmart preloaded with Windows 10, dedicated to handle the vendor (MartyO) tunes and tuning/diagnostic programs that require Windows. Supposed to be ready for pickup friday.

The SCT X4 device requires Windows to handle anything coming from outside of SCT. If you activate the WiFi function and log it onto an available network, the device will automatically ‘call home’ for firmware updates and ‘canned tune’ updates. A Windows computer running Vista or above is required to load custom tunes into the device.

Looking at the costs and complexity of installing Windows on my Macs I felt it just wasn’t worth it.

I'm using Oracle VM Virtual Box on my Macbook Pro to run Windows 10. It's a little slow because my MBP is a few years old, but it's good enough to run SCT's software on it.

I’d rather partition the HD as I don’t need to run both OS at the same time.

I have roughly 80GB available each on both machines and Boot Camp stated I needed at least 40GB for the install. Started install and message stated I didn’t have enough space for the install. I’d rather keep Windows and Mac on separate machines anyway.

This will be my first ownership experience with a windows machine. The one I ordered is pretty much ‘bare bones’ as I feel that will be all I need for what I’ll put on it.

Finally finished installing the CAI today - good experience. Underwhelmed by the canned tune from SCI - it did give many options for manually setting spark, fuel, shift points, etc. I left them all alone except for the axle ratio and selected 3:55 over 'default'.

Took all day yesterday to set up my new Windows 'wunderbox'; a 14" HP 'Stream'. Finally achieved all available updates with the exception of the core Windows 10 update from v.1511 to v.1803. HP chat room advised that I use a 16GB USB 'Firestick' as HP recommends instead of the 250GB USB HDD external drive I have plugged up to it at the moment.

The internal 32GB SSD means most memory is on 'the cloud' with the exception of OS updates. My first personal experience with a windows machine - seems to be working well otherwise. Have only downloaded the SCT program to the Stream at the moment.

Lol, you guys have no clue who Decipha is. It's ok, if you guys are for canned tunes or dyno tunes, SCT is fine. If you want to tune your own, Moates Quarterhorse is the way to go. I've been using the SCT PRP for years custom tuning and I'm switching over in a couple weeks here.

All of that is well beyond my current understanding/skill level. Read where people tinkered with their tuning and the car wouldn't start and had to be towed in extreme cases.

Spoke with MartyO by phone a short while ago to purchase one of his custom tunes. He was busy and stated he would phone me back at some point.
