For those of you that have made this repair, what steps did you take? I have the bolts and nuts, but I can't seem to manipulate anything in order to be able to bolt the actuator to the door. What's the best way to go about it?

Take door skin off. Peel up plastic waterproofing sheeting, remove actuator by drilling out rivets, and to unhook the actuator hook from its "metal line" that connects to the locks, you have to turn the actuator horizontal and push back, towards rear of car to unhook. Installation-Put ss bolt into metal actuator bracket first with a washer and locknut, (bolt will just spin if you only put on on the outside of door), and hook the actuator hook back into its metal line home, (Metal loop with a white plastic insert, very small PITA). Connect Actuator electrical clip and now put the bolt through your door and use a washer and nylon lock nut

1/4 by 20 with a washer before and after with a lock washer and standard nut
You can have it setup so the nut is on the inside or outside if you use a short enough bolt

Ok, so it sounds like maybe the bolts I got were too long, and they were the shortest available at the time. I did try to have the bolt go from inside to outside, as you're both suggesting, but I couldn't feed the bolt into the bracket. I guess 3/4" length is too long. I'll have to see if I can find 1/2" long bolts, if that's the better length.

Take off the door panel, go to ANY bodyshop and tip them a few bucks to pop the correct rivet in. I have the rivets AND the gianormous rivet gun to install them. Ford uses rivets all over inside these doors but you can be a purist and have the right one installed and be done with it.

You can usually take the old actuator out of the mounting bracket and pop the new one in it's place.

+1 on this but many of these actuators mount in many different configurations so make sure you take a pic because well, trust me.

Never worry about too long of a bolt again. I use these so much that I have 1 Milwaukee and 2 Dewalts scattered between the work van and the garage! A daily use tool in my world. [emoji1303]

I have fixed both of mine but I can't remember what size rivet I used.

None of the ones I know are good happen to be open when I am able to bring a car by. Which is why I haven't yet gotten a quote on getting paint/damage quotes on either my Marauder or my wagon. It was easier when I worked a block away from a shop.

You can usually take the old actuator out of the mounting bracket and pop the new one in it's place.I checked on the actuator this weekend, and it doesn't feel like the bracket can be removed without some sort of fight that might prevent the two from going back together properly. Maybe with a replacement actuator/bracket, but not the original.
