I'm a new Marauder owner and wanted others opinions on the best oil to use for them. I was planning on Mobil 1, but it does not come in 5-20 like Fords calls for. Would you suggest using Mobil 1 0-20 or something like a Castorl synthetic 5-20?

However, let me tell you it is a b*tch to find an appropriate filter to go with it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
Actually, there are about 59 different oil threads. It's a running joke about the horrors of starting another "oil thread."
If you do a search you will find way more than enough information.
Thanks,

I've used both and always use a Amsoil Oil Filter, it cost's alot more( About $15 ) but then you get what you pay for . Alot of Ford Deal's carry it.

Don't sweat it, Gagfish (can we call you Gag for short? sounds funny, though...).
You'll find a wealth of information on oil weights by using the search function, but unfortunately the topic is kind of like discussing politics or religion. Actually, we can be VERY thankful oil companies don't seek out politicians for endorsement of their products in advertisements, otherwise this could get real ugly. ;)
There are a lot of opinions and preferences regarding oil weights and brands, and to be honest I don't think I recall hearing of one blown or damaged engine that was attributed to the choice of motor oil used... there just doesn't seem to be any correlation. However, if you stick to well known brands in weights hovering around the factory specification and change often, I think you'll be fine.
Oil threads themselves are not harmful to human health... in fact, I think the best approach is if you find that the search function does not cough up any hits on a certain brand and weight you're interested in, I think it's best to ask here. Worst case scenario is a lot of personal opinion without technical background, best case scenario is links to supporting facts... either way, it doesn't hurt to try discussing it if we haven't touched on it yet.
That being said, I've recently found a source of Castrol full synthetic 5W20 which proudly proclaims adherence to Ford and Honda technical specifications for 5W20 requirements. I'm going to try to find some info on what those specifications are, and how they pertain to other oils like Mobil 1 in 5W30 weight.

Doing an oil change. ;)
Y'know, that reminds me of a dude who once proudly proclaimed a few years back that he left the car draining for close to a day up on jackstands just to make sure he got all the evil old oil out before the new fill. LOL!

My thing is use the cheapest "or equivalent", a high quality filter, and change oil twice as often as the manual calls for, 2500 miles. Filters every 5000 is OK.
Oh, and never let a grease monkey change my oil. They almost never fill the filter before installing it, guaranteeing a good 3-5 seconds of high idle with no oil pressure.
No oil pressure. I hate it when that happens.

First of all, welcome to the site...this IS the best place for any info regarding all things Marauder...
Ford only recommends 5W-20...it is not required...having said that, the Motorcraft 5W-20 is putting up some excellent numbers in used oil analyses from all of the modular motors...check it out over on BITOG (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=3). ..
If you want to use a TRUE full synthetic oil, then your choices are: Mobil 1, AMSOIL, Royal Purple, and Redline...the Castrol you mention is NOT a true synthetic, regardless of what their marketing department is legally allowed to claim...likewise, the offerings from Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, et. al. are also ersatz synthetics...
There was a poll done sometime last year that showed the majority of the board is split between Mobil 1 and AMSOIL, with a couple of Royal Purple users...0W-20, 5W-20 or 5W-30 will be fine for this motor...

You mean he didn't just pressurise the block with compressed air to force all the poluted oil out?

. . . the Castrol you mention is NOT a true synthetic, regardless of what their marketing department is legally allowed to claim . . .
AHA! I THOUGHT I heard THAT somewhere! FWIW, I recently switched from Mobil 1 5W30 to Mobil 1 0W20 full synthetic in my Marauder, which I think is just fine. Listen to RF when it comes to oil . . . he knows his stuff! I agree, stick with Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, or Redline (Redline's good, too, isn't it, RF?) when it comes to TRUE full synthetics!

Please allow me to expand slightly on what I said above...while there are certainly more true synthetic oils out there, like GC ("German Castrol", as opposed to the North American version), Torco, NEO, Synergyn, etc., the ones I named are the most readily available in the US...the others are either VERY expensive, or not commonly available...
Concerning 'Shooter's question about Red Line, I included it as an example of a TRUE synth oil, not because I recommend it...they DO make an excellent racing oil, but their street oils have had mixed reviews...they are a different base stock than most of the others (POE vs. PAO) and are also very expensive...this is not a condemnation of their oils, it's just that there are equally good or better oils for STREET use, for a lot less money...
