So the blue car is hurt and I get a call from a friend with his original owner 2004 DTR Marauder with light flint, moonroof, heated seats, trunk spoiler and trunk organizer. Engine blew up. Do you want it? Yes, no, no, yes, maybe, yes. Crap now I have two projects. I serviced this car since it had 128k miles on it. Always garaged super clean. Did I need it? No. Did I want to save it of course. #963 of 980 DTR's and one of the last 100 Marauder's made. I finally got a heart for it and got it stabbed today. About 2 hours worth of work and I hope to drive it again. Mileage doesn't matter folks. Fix them don't kill them. Tired of seeing these car's parted out.

Yep and the transmissions and diffs are very simple and cheap rebuilds/repairs.

If body is good, fix the drivelive and keep on Maraudering!!! :burnout:

Yes lining up 4 converter holes blind and 2 alignment tabs on the block is fun.

With all this rain we have been getting, I'm surprised you were able to even work on it yesterday

Looks great man

This will be worth following since the car isn't a beater. I'd like to know the history and what can be expected that needs to be replaced at 300k miles. Maybe a funding page...I'd slip a few dollars towards any worthy project. Raffle it off afterwards.:)

This car is nicer than most despite the odometer. That is the exact reason why I am putting money into it. I could have parted it out and tripled my money. But instead I get to drive a rare Marauder and have a great story when people ask. 300K miles is impressive in itself, let alone it looking like a 30K mile car. Hope to fire the car Friday................

Me too!

Something about the DTR and the front chin spoiler looks so sweet! I am looking for a low low mile DTR. Lost the low Mile blue in Seattle to one of you Easties three weeks back.... :(

PS If it is still out here and you want to let it go.... PM me

Almost got it done today despite the rain. The ultimate set back was a coolant leak at the oil filter adapter housing. It never fails. I cannot catch a break.

Pop up is a good idea never though to try that. My garage is occupied by my 04 cobra and a buddies 03 cobra so now room to work.

Hell yeah, i hate working in the rain. Bought that thing about 9 months ago and was the first time ive used that tent.

If we were about 15 years younger, that thing would have been running and driving that night!

Lets move 3 cars and put it on the lift to finish it, oh, order graphite gaskets for the flanges and 1 1/2 long 3/8x16 bolts and metal lock nuts,.. i might have a bunch in the nut and bolt bin, remind me to look.

Later buddy

Long story short. Had an oiling issue in the driver's side head. Tore it apart in the car found a loose cam cradle causing a lack of oil pressure to the front 2 cylinders intake cams tap tap tap. Not my fault paid an engine builder to assemble a long block SMH. It is running. Had a temp issue due to me just being done with working on the car. Burped cooling system car is up and running.

I serviced this car 3 or 4 year's before I had a Marauder. I got the opportunity to buy it last winter with a blown engine. I knew I always wanted it but the timing was bad. I fought this car every step of the way but I drove it today and it felt good. Thank you to this community fir your help. Bryan, I was ready to fire sale this car I appreciate your help very much. 300k miles, brought back to life....................

You have a problem, but luckily I know where you could buy a cheap silver birch that needs a little bodywork to complete your collection.

It’s a great feeling when you get over the first few miles where you find out if you totally screwed up or not!

Enjoy it!

And just when I thought I was out of the wood's on this car it takes out the thrust bearing with 900 miles on the rebuild. Welp, back to step one I guess. F to tha UCK THIS CAR, IT WILL NOT LET ME WIN. Consider it parked until I get motivated again or it might just catch on fire. Feeling defeated. :alone:

If it is a flexplate issue, I have a non-SFI 8 bolt flexplate.
Never used it, as I wanted an SFI rated flexplate when I built my 5.0 big bore engine.
It's yours if you cover the shipping.
I'll shoot a picture of it tonight and post it if you want it.

Update. 4 months later engine is still not done. Crank is trashed had to buy an Eagle replacement. Engine builder said the thrust bearing was trashed but couldn't tell me why. I showed him video's of converter to flex plate clearance. You would think that I would be a priority I guess not.

Pray tell that I won't need my motor rebuilt anytime soon. If so, I'll contact MartyO and ask him to recommend someone. Interesting thread, similar to Agent2006.

Hey Neil: sometimes you gotta step away for a bit, before you go all JackNicholson/Shining...

No way a thrust bearing should wipe out at 400 miles, hopefully the engine builder will step up. Or, get a Aviator motor to get her driving...

I had to step away for a while too as these cars can be a PITA. How did you know the thrust bearing went out, did the motor not start one day, or did the crank have play?

Mine makes a ticking, click, knock, from the bellhousing, I think loose flexplate bolts but not sure. Going to start getting back into it here soon.

Had to put a shim on the starter thought it was because of the 8 bolt crank and different flex plate. Started getting noises from transmission area behind block in front of converter. Noticed black belt dust on alternator. Finally took a pry bar the crank pulley clunk clunk. Oil was copper colored.

What kind of noise down there?

Mine was chewing up the front accessory belt when I got it back. I re-aligned the eaton swap brackets and I think fixed the issue...but hearing this is concerning.

Turbov6Bryan

On Neil's engine the thrust bearing ate it self and allowed the crankshaft to go forward and backwards causing the belt to chew up. It was not a alignment issue with like an even swap would have. If you changed your engine oil in it was glittery then you know it's bearings
