Ya, it was an mid 80's one, but it still was fun. I was rolling down US 45, just out of West Bend on my way to Milwaukee. I had my windows down and radio up. I'm doing about 80 when I pass lady (attractive, but older 45 maybe?) in a mid 80's brown Corvette. I signal over and she must have saw my licence plate that reads "BIG N FST." She flys by me, so I step it down. I catch her and she looks over and laughs and we both hit it at the same time. The Marauder really gets up from 85. It downshifted twice and off I went. I really rolled by that 'Vette. A good 8 car lengths, I backed off, and the lady catched up. She pulled her sun glasses down as she looked at me, then gave me an "Ok" sign. She fell back into the right lane and exited a few miles later. All in fun, but if she was 20 years younger I'd have raced her for a date. :) :P

Attractive, about 45 ? You don't know what you missed out out on, I'll bet she will out perform that Vette by far.

20 years younger? Just turn the lights off and drink more. That takes off 20 years and an unlimited amount of weight.

I can't wait until I get my first Vette with the MM.

The last one I had was with my SHO.

Pretty similar... was cruising along at about 60 with my buddy in the front seat and his kid brother in the back. My buddy had another SHO, and his kid brother didn't understand why either of us had them.

Mid-70s Sting Ray comes up behind us, closing fast. As he moves to the left lane, I drop to 3rd gear and stand on it. We matched the Corvette's speed as it pulled next to us, and then walked away from it going up the hill. With 3 people in the car and the A/C on.

Ahhh, the taste of fiberglass... I'm getting hungy!

BIG N FST. Wonder if I can get that in Pennyslvania....

Any Vette after 73 and before the mercury marine motor, was pretty much a slug with a capital S.

Alright fellas, you convinced me..... next time I'll hit on the **** (mom, i'd like....nevermind) "The older the berry, the sweeter the juice. Right?" Too bad I actually have a cool girlfriend. Not only are you guys razzing me, but so did the guys at Skokie.... Anyway, as for the years, beauty is only a light switch and a few PBR's away.... I'll have to remember that. :)

Any Vette after 73 and before the mercury marine motor, was pretty much a slug with a capital S.I worked for Chevrolet from '89 to '92 and I've seen a lot of 'Vettes. You're pretty much on target because they were fairly heavy but I do remember the factory (Hydro-Matic) spec. for a part-throttle 3-2 downshift on an '84 with the cross-ram induction engine was supposed to be possible at 150 mph!(?) I never did it, but the gears on that car was long enough I suppose.

BTW, I hate Corvettes. It's like trying to climb into a space capsule. Survivability in a crash is worse. Not for me, I like Big and Fast, better than little and a little faster.

I had a 79 L82 that was kind of a dog. I had twin tubo's installed to be able to get it to move.

You're probably thinking of the 4-3 downshift. The 1985 Corvettes with the new-for-1985 Tuned Port Injection motors were supposedly the first to hit a top speed of just over 150 mph in a long time, and they proudly touted that fact for 1985. That's why I'm thinking the 1984 version couldn't churn out 150 mph. I don't remember if they used a longer gear than 3.07:1 in those years, but with that ratio, you're looking at around 80-85 mph at 5500 RPM in 2nd. I honestly don't think those <S>boat anchors</S> motors had much left at 5500 (and since the TPIs redlined at 5500 RPM, I assume the dreaded <S>Cease-Fire</S> er, I mean Cross-fire engines might have redlined lower, or at least the same.

One thing the Vette automatic valve bodies did have (at least circa 1987) was the ability to grab 4th (0.70:1 OD) at WOT. In the other cars using that transmission (including the F-bodies), the tranny would downshift to 3rd at the slightest inclination of WOT. You could be humming along at close-to-full steam, and grab a 3-4 upshift and start to plateau... inch the pedal forward to WOT and WHAM, you're back in 3rd gear. A lot of times, that would correspond to instant redline... not a fun (or smooth) experience.

:pimp: well fellas- as the proud owner of a black 04 mm 300b AND a 97 c5
corvette, i can say with certainty that while there are many stock corvettes
the mm can outrun, your garden variety c5 is not one of them.

Yeah, my 97 would kill my Marauder in accel/decel/hadling/braking, but you just can't get 4 people to Vegas at high speed in a Corvette. loved mine though. And if you didn't have the cool girlfriend, you would have to race for the date - the older women I've dated were all fantastic. I married a lady 2 years my senior, and we tell everyone she robbed the cradle, I robbed the CraftMatic Adjustable Bed. God, she hates that joke. But I dated a few women in their mid to late thirties and one in her early forties (ok, dated is note quite right...) and always enjoied their company.
