For my Passport 8500 radar detector....which is the best route for the wire from the headliner to a 12v source, and placement of the mute button, alert led, power led inline module ?

What is a direct wire SmartCord?

The direct wire SmartCord is an optional accessory that allows you to connect the Passport 8500 X50, Passport 7500S, or the Solo S2 directly to your fuse block or other 12-volt source (leaving your lighter socket free for other uses) and provides an additional mute button, alert light and power indicator light for the detector. The direct wire SmartCord is approximately 11 1/2 feet long overall, with the extra mute button and lights in a module about 8 feet from the detector end of the cord.
Thanks.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with, as I've been considering this detector myself, but mounting it in such a way that looks good is important to me. Let us know what you come up with, and pics when you're done would be great!

I hardwired mine behind the dash with the cord running around the windshield tucked in the trim by the headliner.

BUT, I believe it can be run right into the overhead console power supply for the compass/homelink. Someone mentioned doing that a while back.

You will of course need a ZR3 shifter to go with it. :D

Thanks,

I installed a Valentine 1 detector. Ran the wires thru some small stick-on clips I got at Radio Shack, stuck them to the windshield underneath the headliner (can not see the wires), ran the wires behind the A pillar trim to the fuse box, tapped into a 12v source and ground. I put the clip for the V1 above and to the left of the rear view mirror. This week end I'm attempting to install the V1's remote in the dash, like the clock on the '03 Marauders.
