Hit the car cruises with my little boy last night, and shot a few pics of some interesting cars. Unfortunately, all my car literature is boxed up for my move so I need some help id'ing these cars. This one is the most interesting, a '57 or something Ford.

Steve, it looks like a 1957 Ford Custom, very similar to the Fairlane.

It looks like a '57 Custom Fairlane. Amazing the similarities w/ the '57 Chevy Belair. Odd in that I never noticed the similarites before?

It is a '57 Ford Custom tudor. Base model of the Custom series. The headlight rings and eyebrows weren't originally chromed. Not a Fairlane, which has a longer WB and trunk, with more graceful "fins". The '57 Ford it could be argued, is the first modern BOF Grandfather of the "Panther" cars.
The '57 Fords were "all new". There really isn't much similarity with a '57 Chev, which were only restyled '55 Chevs. The Ford is much more of a "modern car, and much "lower" Better handling as well.

Ford outsold Chevrolet in '57. "57 Fords introduced the famous 9" rear, the now common four barrel carb base pattern, and many other taken for granted things.
The Carter AFB and Holley 4bbls common today were designed for the '57 Ford.

just some UFI for you

If memory serves, I think FoMoCo introduced their new "safety bead rim" featuring the first tubeless tire in 1957.

I think it is a 56 or 57 Ford Fairlane with a 'Custom' trim level.

Yep, a '57 Fairlane Custom. But, I don't remember that Avocado as an original color. Seems that most that I recall in the 2-tone trim were Red/White, Turquoise/White, or Black/White.

My Grandma had a 57 2 tone black and white, if it wasn't for picture's I wouldn't know, I was only 3 years old in 57. :D

Thanks all for the info. Much appreciated. Didn't get to intercept the owner for some background info, will try next week.

Here's another. I know it's a Marquis but I'm guessing 1970 ish? 429 2Bbl, sounded healthy and smooth-running when fired up.

69 to 71, all looked similar. Back then Mercury was chock full of big
ford power. An interesting tidbit, back in those days, Honeycomb cereal offered little plastic Mercury cars in the "specially marked boxes." I still have a Cyclone GT, the Marquis you have a photo of (same color even), and a Marauder (of course). I guess it was predetermined for me to be a Merc-man. :banana2:

There was a Fairlane series, and a Custom series, but no "Fairlane Custom"

There were a few shades of green available, but you are right, the green on that car isn't one of them.

I'd guess '69 or '70. That kicks off a period of over a decade of questionable automotive styling, and not just for Ford......

I had a 69 for a winter car one year. Buckets of torque and very thirsty. I think I got about 7 MPG.

I know of a 57 custom 300 for sale with a 406 tri-power and 3 speed/OD. Car is in excellent shape. It was my uncles car, don't know the price, but i will ask and anyone interested I can give pics and more details.

It is a 1957 Ford Custom, which has a shorter wheelbase than the 57 Fairlane (118 vs 116). Custom 300's had side trim reminiscent of that used on the Fairlane 500 which extended the entire length of the car

The sidetrim on that particular 57 is an exact miniature of the sidetrim on the 55 Ford.

In 1960, one of the guys bought a beautiful 57 Ford convertible, powder blue, with a continental kit. Except for the mediocre front, the styling of the 57 Ford was excellant, and much better than the 58 and boxy 59. (Then, starting in 1960, Ford tried to copy the 59 Chevy styling and were surprised to learn that the boxy 59 had outsold the 59 Chevy.)

One drawback. The 57 Fords almost seemed to rust out overnight.

One day, one of the guys decided to leap over the side of the 57 (top was down) to get into the back.

His motorcyle boots (big fad, back then) actually went through the rusted floorboard.

Didn't go over too well with the owner.

Same with the '58s. We had a 1958 white Ford Station Wagon with the wood grain side panels for a short while when I was a kid. Lots of rust problems with that one ..... from then on out ... my father would only drive a Chevy through the '60s and 70's.
