39 years from now?

We all know that the gen-4 Marauder sightings are getting fewer and farther between 14 years after they stopped making them. And why not, they only built 11,052 of them. But what will it be like in another 39 years when they are 53 years old?

Well for comparison sake, when's the last time you saw one of these Marauders?

Or for that matter, ANY 1965 Marauder (almost half of all Marauders)

Keep looking. There are Marauders out there.

I rarely see one anymore and Chicago was a huge market for them. Though now a days we are much more aware of potential future value and long term maintenance, so I bet there will be more '04s around in 39 years than there are 65's today. Maybe not much more but more. I am shocked on how many show up as totaled lately. Seems once a month there is another '03 or '04 Marauder getting totaled. I wonder if I will be around in 39 years. That used to sound a long way away, now I'm closer to 100 than I am to 1

I go to a fair number of car shows as well as 'Cars & Coffee' events and I have only seen ONE....and it was actually an S55!

In 2057, how many will still even remember Mercurys, or Oldsmobiles, or Pontiacs, or Plymouths?

About the same number that today remember Nashes, or Hudsons, or DeSotos, or Henry J's or Kaiser-Frazers.....

I've been showing my Galaxie since the mid-80's when I was in my 40's.
That's a long time and a lot of shows.

I did win 4 trophies this year for "top 25 or top 40". No class winning trophies though. The 60's are a tough class to win. Too many Mustangs and GM muscle-cars.

But, I still love the comments.

We took our 1964 Mercury Marauder to a very large pre 72 show the last 2 years and with the exception of some mid to late 50s Merc's we were the only other early/mid 60's Merc there. When I say very large I mean 2000 cars. Scary

Speaking from experience, unfortunately, Ford products in the early/mid 60's had rust issues. I don't know if Fords were better or worse than other cars, but, it seemed that owners of GM cars were more likely to hang on to their older vehicles.

I was all set to dump my car many years ago due to rust issues, but since convertibles were being phased out at that time, I decided to repair it and convert it to a 500XL.

Having Oldsmobile's, a Marauder and previously a Wildcat I am very familiar with people not knowing what I own. I never take offense even when they call my 442 a Chevelle. It is what it is, that's what makes the car unique. Some folks know what the Marauder is, some know its something unique, some think its a taxi some think I'm the FBI. I like that you hardly ever see them.

39 years from now there will be ZERO 2003 or 2004's on the road. Due to the unavailability of any electronic part and obsolescence of unique body parts that will be systematically destroyed on old taxi cab wannabe clones. You'll likely see one or two but they'll be basically a carbureted 100 year old V8 under the hood. I have extrapolated mine will be 30 years old before the odometer sees six digits. Still won't be running in 39 years...

Here in the north Jersey area, I've seen a number of wrecking yards close down.

My Galaxie has a fender from Seattle, a grille from Virginia, a rear bumper from San Diego, a front bumper from (I forgot), a dash pad from Pa, and 500XL rear seat and speaker trim and a rear end from two different Jersey yards that are long gone.

My 2003 TBird hasn't hit the 25K mark yet. The body on my Galaxie is about to hit the 220K mark. (In Jan, the Galaxie and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary.)

All of these items were purchased pre-internet, but I was lucky that my job required me to do a lot of travel. I always found some time to go junkyard shopping.
