Window tint?! And tire?

Hi all

Just bought and garaged a100% stock 300B. I’m thinking on getting it tinted in the spring. I know it has a solar tint. I’ve had a few local opinions on tinting.
Some say NO. It will no longer be stock and I’ll lower value and future collectibility. What say you? Btw it still has original tires. Look in great shape. Should I replace in summer? With? I would keep original tires.

tint can be removed easily with handheld steamer..I've removed two doors in 20 minutes with no residue. Tires over 6 years old should be replaced imo. Nitto, Cooper, Hankook all make factory size tires

Not sure tint will change value. It can always be taken off. I just tried tint. The very expensive 3M Crystalline because it reflects the heat. It is apparently thicker and perhaps more difficult to apply. The company has a very good reputation and some very expensive cars were getting done for repeat customers. But, I had issues with small bubbles, etc. I tend to be a perfectionist and they bothered me. Went to a car show recently and looked at a lot of tinted cars. Most but not all had some small bubbles.

The other issues was the crystalline looked foggy when it was in very direct sunlight. Other angles were clear. I assume this was due to the good heat rejection. The company tried 3 times to get it right and it did improve. But, in the end I had them take it all off and get a refund. Now I am back to happy and don't think I will get tint done anymore.

Black on Black tint will preserve interior.

No problems with tint until 14 years/200k miles and tint began to break down.

I have never heard of window tinting decreasing values on these cars, unless the tint was bubbling, peeling or turning blue / purple in color. I would say many owners, especially in the South end up tinting their windows to keep the intense sun and heat out.

Replace the tires. No one really care about original tires unless it's going across the block at Mecum and even then I'd argue that those guys probably don't care too much.

On the tint, I am a huge supporter of tint. Look into the ceramic tint. It's pricey but I think anything that keeps the interior from getting beat to death from the sun and heat is worth it.

I didn't like not being able to see out as clearly AND the tint does make the car look bigger /taller / more hefty. I took mine out (do admit it must have been cheaper stuff or maybe old as it didn't compare to the new Ceramic stuff).

Each has there own opinion, but I like the greenhouse clear window effect... Like an old BMW 2002, or a 633csi, our Marauder's have a good amount of glass!

For heat decrease though,can't beat the new ceramic tint!

1Marauder- Before I get to what follows, I wanted to say that despite liking the tint on my Panther, I agree with you, especially about those older Bimmers :D. Anyhow..

My '08 P71 has very dark tint from its time with the DOJ in TX. Looks great, perfect with the Smokestone paint, simply love how it looks.

BUT..

IMO people need to drive something with the proposed tint on a very dark, preferably rainy, night in unfamiliar surroundings. Just to know for certain that there won't be a potentially serious issue later. Once you have aftermarket tint, you can never say "I didn't see him".

It makes brighter backup lights even more necessary.

LEOs are understandably nervous when approaching vehicles with dark tint. This can effect how they interact with the people in 'em. I'll put the windows down, which would be fun in bad weather :rolleyes:

Great idea driving one at night. I forgot to mention that I almost ran over an adult bicyclist, at night, who had right of way. I didn't/couldn't see him through my dark tint side window. Again, not flaming tint, as I am sure the products are much better and clearer nowadays. Just offering ideas as above post.

My opinion on car window tinting is based on early experiences when I lived in Florida decades ago. Early experiences were poor, often having to pay someone to remove horribly substandard tinting after finally finding someone who knew what they were doing.

I didn’t bother to have the windows on my 1998 Mustang tinted as I noticed exactly one SN95 Mustang over the years that had its back window tinted correctly, and that work was done by a shop in Savannah, GA. I had the side windows on my 2001 Ranger extended cab tinted - rear window and quarter windows were/are factory dark tinted. All of my current vehicles are ‘factory tint’ only as I no longer feel the need to have them tinted - maybe it’s because I don’t want to put up with the hassle? Like many here, my vehicles sit outside in the elements - tinting comes down to a personal preference I suppose.

Tires? My personal experience going back decades is as long as the tread is good, wearing correctly, correct inflation pressures and timely rotation then just continue to ride. Caveats? Don’t drive fast on older tires. I rarely drive more than 10 over and often drive under the speed limit, much like in the Cheech and Chong movies. Yeah, I get the usual horns and fingers but I’m having the time of my life! I usually wait until the tires become noisy and a high frequency vibration (mild) starts, telling me the tires are at the end of their service life.

I replaced the tires on my 2005 Mustang last month for the very first time at 29k+ miles. Even though they still had good tread on them, they had gotten noisy and had begun to shake. Replaced them with the latest version of the OEM Pirelli Pzeros and it was like night and day. Tires are quiet and smooth. This past weekend, I replaced the OEM Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires on my 2006 Ranger at 40k+ miles with Michelin LTX Defenders - same situation as with my Mustang - like night and day. After doing a bit of reading, I realized the Michelins were considered notably better tires in my application.

Marauder is riding on its second set, installed back in 2006 and have accumulated under 14k miles out of a total of 43k+ miles on the car. Not noisy or shaky and are wearing well but I know their time is coming.

Yeah, sometimes it pays to think about those moments "that'll never happen to me". Leaving aside the whole "destroying somebody's life" aspect of it,
this isn't one that people can expect to get away with. Ditto for tinted head/tail lights...

Forgive me for not welcoming you earlier. Sounds like you made quite the find and Welcome! to the wonderful/interesting world of the 4th gen Mercury Marauder.
