I just completed the conversion to the larger FG-800A fuel filter last night...didn't drive the car, but started it to check for leaks, etc. Today, the Bunny Lady drove it to work and the check engine light came on about a mile from the house...I know I can take it down to AutoZone and have the code read, but did anyone else have this problem when either replacing the stock or changing to the upgrade?

BTW, she says the car is running fine...no other indication of a problem...

Don't know if this is the same filter. I had Dennis put on his fuel filter mod with the larger filter and engine light never came. Car is running fine.

I had the same problem when i upgraded my fuel filter. The code reads a fuel pressure drop, or something of that nature. Just reset the code at auto zone, or with a handheld tuner like i have and you'll be all set.

I realize this is a stupid question but sometimes these things are simple. Did you disconnect the battery prior to the install? If not, I think the computer make be recoginzing a flucuation in fuel pressure and flashing a code- just conjecture. It could be just a matter of burping the computer and continuing on your merry way.

Haggis, I think Dennis's filter is a different one, although I believe he's the one who first mentioned the FG-800A upgrade, too...

Marauder8 just told me that his car did the same thing when he installed the bigger filter, but he has a code scanner, so he was able to clear it as soon as he saw it. Apparently it should go away by itself after three "driving cycles"...

*EDIT* OK, I just saw the responses that came in while I was typing this...thanks, guys! I feel a whole lot better...

....or, pull the battery neg. cable for fifteen minutes or so to clear the code.

That's "burping"- I should have been more clear....DOH!

I had the same problem when I switched to the larger filter. Had to pull the PCM fuse out twice to clear code. The PCM sees a loss of fuel pressure or proper fuel vapor recovery. Just make sure gas filler cap is secured since this will also set a code.

RF. This reply won't help you but it may help others that ckange the filters.
After changing filter you can purge the air out of the lines and filter by cycling the ignition on and off 4 or 5 times befor starting car. Turn key on, wait a few seconds then turn off and wait 15 to 20 seconds and repeat 4 or 5 times.Hope this helps.

Actually, that WILL help me...next time... :P ;)

Thanks for the tip...I did turn on the key (w/o starting) heard the pump run for 3-4 seconds, and got out to check for leaks...I then started the car and checked for leaks again. I thought the initial key-on/engine-off cycle would have primed everything the first time...

God I love this place... :D
