View Full Version : HELP: Upper Radiator Hose to Pipe O-Ring Question

It appears that there is a small leak coming from the pipe that connects the upper radiator hose. The mechanic says it's the O-ring. Well after a week's worth of searching Ford, Lincoln and other vendors, they cannot find the O-ring and the local Ford dealers in and around Los Angeles say that the pipe is obsolete.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Or where can my mechanic obtain an O-ring? His technician is telling him they could try repairing it with silicone but before he does that I told him I would search.

Any advice or vendor sights is most appreciated.

Honesty if your mechanic can't figure out where to get O-rings from I'd look into a new mechanic.

To be fair, they only list the O-rings under Lincoln products.

Is there something unique about the cross-over O-ring? Wouldn't the mechanic just call Autozone and request a ??mm generic O-ring? Just interested as I've got a cross-over that is due for O-rings as well.

O rings are specific to their diameter, thickness, material compound..they can be thin, thick, silicone, Buna, etc...

The Aamco guys are saying the O ring for the radiator pipe is not manufactured nor is the pipe which connects the hoses. I think they have solved it...stay tuned...

Not true, find OEM specs for Oring (someone here knows info) then get one of same or close size from FLAPS that is oil/AF resistant & install with some RTV to act as lubricant/sealant. Let dry & refill. Good for another 15 years

AAMCO manager says that they called Ford and their other vendors and could not find the specific O-Ring to match the one inside the pipe. He said that they ordered the gasket set for the engine and the O-Rings specifically for that pipe were in the package.

Now I don't know why an O-Ring is that difficult that one from a shop like Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. would not work. Seems strange that Mercury would make a part irreplacable that seems so common in cars.

I'm going to call Ford and ask. Now I'm curious.
