Hey guys, my 03 has slow roll started for a long time, took it to Ford and they said its corroded starter/wires. I replaced that starter about five years ago with a Motorcraft starter! What should I replace it with that's got a little more oomph and won't become a corroded mess a few years down the road in Illinois? Note: my Marauder is stock so maybe it doesn't need a ton more performance but maybe? What's your experience?

Mine had corrosion at the braided wire too. when I touched the braid, the wire disintegrated! If you drive in the salt, same thing will happen again...maybe coat that braid with some petroleum jelly? I bought the TYC from Rock auto (new) $53.bucks.

The problem isn't the starter, it sounds like you're not washing the salt off your undercarriage.
I wrapped mine on the 03 in a heat blanket due to the headers, I imagine that will also protect it from direct salt blasts.

I'm not familiar with heat blankets. Is that like exhaust wrap for motorcycles?

It's not tightly wound around like exhaust wrap

I will definitely get one of those for whatever starter I go with. I am a firm believer in an ounce of prevention!

Will that hold salt against the starter making things worse? But, I can see where it would be great as a heat shield

I bought this one a few years ago when it was branded Jegs. Way smaller, easier install, and WAY faster turning rate. Just sounds smooth..

And this one I put in my F150 5.4 a year or two ago. At least an inch shorter than stock so once again much easier install trying to reach the top bolt, and turn over rate almost the exact same as the adjustable mini one on the Marauder. Just not as cool looking. [emoji6]

Powermaster has a great reputation, plus they are local to us.

I saw them when I was Googling starters for the car, I was curious if they were any good, TBH their name sounded a bit hokey to me lol.

Just had my car up on the lift this weekend, I didn't notice anything immediately alarming in regards to rust. I don't want to make it sound like I put this on to protect the starter from salt, my last starter died in 2-3 years and I imagine it's due to heat from the headers. The headers on my 04 are coated and I'm still rocking the original starter, the 03 headers are not coated.

Any other options anyone has experience with before I pull the trigger on one?
