so,a local buddy of mine has a few mods on his MM (4:10 stainless works -full back, high stall, and tune) definitely pulls on my merc (just flowmasters and jmod)
I"m curious what options are there for headers, and what gains can be expected?

I thought that was the other way around? SW were unequal mid length and kooks were equal length long tubes?

Nope. T'other way around. You'll get more grunt with the long tubes.

Actually, I'd still call the Kooks headers long tubes.
The odd thing is that the driver's side collector is parallel to the floorpan, the passenger's side is angled down towards the ground.
I ordered mine with the 'ball & socket' style connections.

Still like $1000?
I want to open it up a little, but this is by no means my "fast" vehicle.
honestly I think my F150 is quicker. (3.5eco)
If I wanted to go fast Id take one of the ninjas.

Mine has a full titanium ackroprovic supposed to save ~30lbs.
*curiously curb weight on the 750 is only 5 lbs lower.... But almost 90hp between them.

At that time the other things done to the car besides the Stainless Works goodies were: K&N CAI, 4:10 gears, and a 93 octane dyno tune.
There's not much drone and I like the tone with the x-pipe and their chambered (quieter) mufflers. Ended up getting Megs 4" tips welded on.
If you get headers, you should get them ceramic coated as well. They say it keeps under the hood temps lower, ect. If anything it makes them/keeps them looking really nice.

14~18HP/TQ NA
On a FI car headers are a must. Only then will you see a 30+HP gain

Your in CA. Neither Kooks or SW are smog certified :violin:
JBA is your only choice! They make a mid length header with a bolt on X pipe that can be modified to fit a MM.

Best bang for the buck?
I use mine as a high speed cruiser, trying to avoid gears, got the jmod 15k back when I rebuilt the trans.

Tune is best bang for buck, changes the stock shifting from always up shifting and down shifting. Keeps car in power band better

I dynoed at 277 rwhp with tune, Stainless Works full exhaust and 4:10 gears on a stock Motor which I understand is the norm
What is the rwhp of a stock Marauder?

What is the rwhp of a stock Marauder?
I dynoed about 272 with a JLT, SW LT's + factory exhaust, and a canned lidio tune. I guess my numbers weren't as bad as some Marauder friends had led me to believe if you got 277 with a full exhaust.
My car ran a 13.9 NA on street tires with the mods listed above + 4.10 gears.
The black car does not have 4.10's but it does have a full SW exhaust, I'd like to see if it can also crack a 13.9 in cool weather.
To the OP: SW headers are absolutely worth it. Better fitment/flow over the kooks, easier access to the starter as well. Kooks also had a problem back in the day with cracking at the primaries (same with the OBX knock off of kooks). This happened to a friend of mine with kooks on his 04 Sport. Back in the day people bought the Kooks because it was the only option, when SW came along it's been all anyone buys.
The way my black car is setup now is how these cars should have come stock (realistically speaking), it would have been respectable performance for a car it's size in 2003.

Those dyno numbers seem extremely high to me.
My stock 03 put down 217 stock and 229 with a tune but has 254k miles.
My friend craigs 03 put down 228 with a tune he only has 35k miles on his.
heres an old link where others were in the ballpark as well

if any of you are ever in your marauder around the new orleans area come stop by my shop and get a free dyno pull to verify. I'm curious to see.

That's way too low, stock should lay down 242hpHe mentioned he's in new Orleans. It's pretty humid down there... It is at sea level though.
Of course there are many many more factors... In my area (SF bay) we are cool and at sea level... But the idiots in Sacramento mandate we mix our gas with 10% corn juice. That'll affect things too.

Dynos have parameters to adjust for humidity and elevation.
