So, I have all these aluminum parts from 2004 and 2005 that are old and grimy. I read a bunch of articles on hot tanking and soaking and such. It seems that acetone is pretty OK for aluminum.

I have a large quantity of acetone and methanol from the distillery. Probably has a good measure of Ethanol in there too.

Does anyone have any experience with soaking aluminum parts for cleaning, that has been successful?

Not sure if it will work, but I'd try a test piece that is disposable first to see what happens.

Do you plan on stripping the heads bare or you going to clean them up and run them?

I use brake cleaner and a stiff brush in the past followed by lots of water then blow dry with compressed air. Never had any issues!

They will get stripped, all new components.

Then let the machine shop do it.

^ what he said.
Or find someone who does baking soda blasting. Will safely remove everything except heavy oxidation.
