Anyone running the Wilwood made BBK?

It's time to do a BBK on the DTR, the stock brakes just aren't cutting it for me anymore.

I'm interested in doing the 14" Wilwood kit but I'm a bit torn on what direction I want to go as this has to work with stock wheels. I'd love to do the Aero6 kit but I fear this is going to make the stock wheels stick way out past the fender lips and look stupid.

The Wilwood FNSL6R caliper with 14" rotor has a 14x1.25" rotor, while the TCE one has a 14x1.10" caliper they produce in house.

The tce 14" kit requires a 2.28mm spacer while the wilwood kit apparently requires a 3.175mm spacer.


Basically my question is, if I have to space these wheels a little over 3mm to clear the Wilwood kit (which I could be wrong, but I think the wilwood hat also plays with where the wheel sits?), is the wheel going to stick out and look stupid?

Wondering if anyone had bought the Wilwood kit vs the TCE setup, I'd prefer to have the thicker rotor for heat dissipation on a 4000+lbs car. If need be, I'll just space the wheel 3-4mm out and test fit a wheel to see what it looks like.

You prob won’t even notice a diff with the spacer. You could always add the same thickness spacer in the rear. I have a 1/4” spacer in the rear and can’t even tell.

Not so much worried about how the front lines up with the rear, eventually I'd like to do a rear kit but I don't know how soon that'll be.

More worried about how it sticks out put front, this car is lowered 1.5" up front so I wouldn't want any rub on the fenders. Eventually I'm going to put a set of Weld RT-S SR71 wheels for track wheels so I have to make sure those can fit around the brakes.

Get some cheap spacers from eBay and put them on to see how it looks. If it’s good
then spend the money on the brake kit

Where are you finding Wilwood for a Marauder other than TCE. It is my understanding that the thinner ritiry from the is required with OEM wheels, tce provides a .090 spacer as well which is needed

Yes, I have Wilwood front kit. I guess where are you seeing the thicker rotor. Stock wheels may not fit with it

Ok, got it. Just making sure you were aware some kits need spacers and certain size wheels. The original kits didn't allow for the thicker rotor

Unless the mounting surface is quite a bit thicker you are only talking +/- 1/8”.

Those are a lot of fun on the rear, measure your axle runout, then fab custom C clips to prevent the axles in/out movement, otherwise they will compress the caliper pistons just enough that you will need 2 presses of the brake pedal to get a firm pedal. Just a hint into what you may be getting into.


Personally, I would just do Jerry's big brake kit on the front and be done.

Pad knock back? I know multiple people on this forum have the rear kit, I haven't looked into the install too much. If that's what it takes it can happen, I have a separate rear axle housing I plan on building up with 31 spline axles.

I have no real interest in the Baer BBK knock off, all that gets you is a bigger iron rotor while retaining a 2 pot caliper. In this day and age, those PBR calipers are pretty outdated just like our factory brakes. I'd put money on it that the wilwood 6 pot 14" kit outperforms the Baer setup both in shedding unsprung weight as well as stopping power. (For the cost difference, it damn well better!)

I swapped a stoptech ST40 BBK onto my M5 which had a positive effect on handling due to a large drop in unsprung mass, as well as greatly improved pedal feel. I'd like to replicate those feelings on the marauder.

Honestly I'd love to put a stoptech setup on this car, I'm surprised they haven't made anything now since this platform is becoming popular for chassis swaps into older vehicles (hence why wilwood made their own front kit).
