Lost keys, what's the best way to get new keys ?

Hello all ! Sorry I haven't been around in such a long time. RL has been really complicated for me for the past year or two.


I don't have keys to the Trilogy car. They were "lost" as a result of some of that complicated RL stuff.


Additionally, the car is in a difficult spot at the end of a narrow driveway, and I won't be able to get a tow truck to it, or even push it out to the street with the steering locked.


What's the best way to get new keys ? Dealer ? Locksmith ?

Locksmith it. They can make a key for the door and ignition to turn, or program it all the way to start the car. Pretty pricey tho! I Think it was $200 at the dealer for 2keys programmed. Locksmith may be a little more but more convenient.

Dealer is probably the best way due to the chip in the key.

The steering wheel doesn't lock on the Mercury Marauders you can move it side to side. With out a key. There is a trick to get it out of gear. but honestly locksmith it probably be the easiest way.

Ck dealer, they should be able to cut key and chip it by VIN.

Worth a phone call.Wrong, Ford dealers can not get key codes for models older than 10 model years. In this case a reputable lock smith can help. They have a system that will get key codes for older vehicles, but it is a little pricey. He will have to have proof of ownership to get this done.

Locksmith was the way to go.


He had a tool that looked like a small slide rule, about 5 inches long.
He put it into the door lock keyway and slid the small arms in and out, I guess looking for the tumblers.
He transferred that to an automated grinder, and had a key.
This all took about 10 minutes.
He put that key into the ignition, hooked a tablet-sized computer into the OBDII port, and programmed the ignition chip.
$180 cash, done.


Charged the battery, put in 3 gal of 93 octane gas, started it right up, runs fine.


Next, the air ride is out, I guess from sitting so long ?

Does the compressor come on at all? You can unplug it and put direct power to the black and red wires only to fire it up. If it comes on and doesn't move up the bags could be shot. Have the key on too just Incase. Make sure switch is on in the trunk.
