Trunk / Luggage Compartment light problem and or ?

I have never noticed this before nor do I recall any posting about it but maybe I am late to the trunk light party.

If I pop the trunk using the fob the light comes on. If I use the key to open the decklid it does not illuminate.

Hot is good. The ground is switched through the trunk release/catch assembly. Ground is provided with the fob actuation but not when using the key.

Is this broken or has it always worked this way?

If it is broken what is the fix?

Jay, it's likely the ground connection in the trunk latch... that's where I'd start looking.

Probably got to take out the assembly and play with it. It works in all power release modes. (i.e. fob, door button, keypad) just not with the key.

I'm thinking the solenoid is moving something in the latch further than the key is able to. It may just be a lube issue or something in the linkage between the lock and the latch.
