Boy, it's been a long road. I finally got the final pieces of the puzzle done and had it tuned for big boost.

The final pieces were the upgraded 4-Link bars from Tim McAmis Racecars, and a new SFI REID Cased Turbo 400 from Finish Line Transmissions. The transmission was installed last week at Finish Line Performance in Plainfield, IL and it was finally ready to turn the wick up.

We started on 110 fuel to make sure it was sorted at about 20psi, which resulted in 710 rwhp. We then drained the 110 and put in the C16,

At ~30psi, we called it a night and the motor made 982/696 at the rear wheels! The runs were made up to 7200 rpm and timing was a very conservative 17*. Pulling the plugs to check timing showed we could easily go to 21*. Had we run it up to 7500, it would have easily been 1000+.

Everyone was high fiving and I couldn't be happier! Just for fun, I had Tony pull up the old dyno pull where I had the 6-71 blower @ 28 psi with a 50 shot on it, then overlay the 28 psi turbo graph from the previous run. TL'DR: it made almost 2X the power!

Here is the results:

http://frieltek.com/pictures/prorauder/2019/20190927Dyno950rwhp.jpg

Bottom line, the motor ended up making 4+hp per cubic inch. Now to go get my HNRA license and enjoy!

Cheers!

No, this is a 4.6 32v motor. 120lb injectors were at about 60% which makes the motor about 1400hp at the crank, give or take. THere might be a video, I'll have to ask Tony if he made one. I've done videos before, so I just took pictures.

WOW, can't wait to see how you do on the track. Good Luck

Congratulations John. Big numbers especially from a tiny small block. Was wondering how you are losing so much power from the crank to the wheels? I assume, maybe wrongly, that with timing adjustments and more RPM the crank number will increase as should the RWHP numbers so where is 400+ hp going?

WOW!! Very impressive. Good Luck with traction, always a good problem to have.

The "parasitic" drag of the OEM drive train is about 60HP.

Maybe more than 60 with a TH400

Thanks everyone. Yes, it has taken a lot of patience. as for the hp loss, it could be that loose converter, the gear vendors OD, the 31" tall tires, I dunno. I based the engine crank HP on the fuel usage, but like anything, it really doesn't matter. I know what it makes at the wheel on that particular dyno and I know it is making power. I was hoping to get it to the track tomorrow, but now they are predicting rain, again, and there may not be any more good days this year. Oh well, what's one more winter in the garage before I get to play with it.

And for John Kuhn, did I mention that I forgot the trunk key? Thought you'd get a kick out of that! HAHA!

Nice numbers John.Even though you will probably beat me I would still like to race you someday.
Purple with theMod motor jut ran a 9.24 @150. The black car with the BBC ran 9.06 @147.

He means, if you were running a 10.03 or 9.05, etc., then you'd be looking for that missing HP to break in to the lower bracket.

Haha! Nice, just saw the previous pic. :D

A quick update. So it always bothered me that it was down on power below 5K rpm. Finally hooked up with Jordan @ Modular Head Shop and told him the whole story. His first comment was, "the cams are ground wrong". Said he's seen it time and again and that usually they were about 5* retarded and did not match the cam cards. For a recap, when I'm on the transbrake, it would take *forever* to get up to 5000+ rpm into the power band where turbos would spool. Jordan recommended I advance the timing and see what happens. During the tear-down, I found that the passenger exhaust cam front cap was galled and there really is no fixing this. Hmm. Another call to MHS and ordered up their best set of heads/cams for my build and decided I didn't have a lot to lose by just advancing the cams and put it all back together. I took the opportunity to upgrade the secondary tensioners and chains to the Accufab setup and then had the big cam gears modified to advance them 5*. Also upgraded to Shelby Mike's billet chain guides since I was this far down. First time on the transbrake, it took only 3 seconds to spool those turbos. I fixed the oil leak I experienced at Dragweek 2021 on both turbos that kept me from competing, but SickWeek was coming up in February so I wanted to be ready.

Long story short, I did get registered for SickWeek but backed out because of the Covid spikes in Florida. The new heads have shown up from MHS and they are gorgeous. The new shortblock from MMR should be here soon, so I expect even better numbers on the dyno this spring.
