66 Charging System tests??

Anyone know of a good YouTube video or ?? that explains testing of the charging system for a 1966 Ford Galaxie XL. New Alternator and Voltage Regulator, still no charge at battery. HEI distributor. I’m not the swiftest when it comes to electrical. Scans of a Chilton’s book??

I am willing to pay someone to come by if they are good at this electrical diagnosis, I’m in Fairfax VA.

make sure the ground reference is present. Usually there is a battery lamp on the gauge cluster that completes that circuit. If that lamp burns out the alternator will not charge. You can verify by turning the ignition on and seeing that the battery lamp illuminates and it will go off when the alternator is putting out power.

also make sure the alternator pulley is not slipping on the shaft and that the belt is routed correctly

I have to many questionable wires under the dash, so I am attempting to have the VR function to charge just the battery.

The green/red wire for that ALT light has a 15 ohm resistor in parallel to the ALT light. So what is the expected voltage to the VR, 10?? 8 ??

Do I need more 'work' for the VR, so i should have something connected to the unused output wire from the VR??

Might also be worth checking the alternator case and regulator grounds. A small amount of paint or rust can impede current flow.
Have a gap in my manuals from 65 to 70, but I believe I found a schematic that will help. Unable to upload images, will pm contact info.

Thnx G'man. Your PM was not able to be viewed, likely blocked somehow, and as in electrical stuff, I'm not to swift on PC"s!! Hell on mechanical stuff tho!! Much appreciate your efforts.

I think I have good schematics, just need to keep poking at it. My latest thought is, after a friend did some calculations, is getting 5 volts to the I VR terminal. My previous 12 volts to the I terminal was the likely reason I fried that VR.

The 5 volts to the I VR terminal worked!! Got lucky. 14.2....nice.
