My son's '04 is throwing the P0108 code (MAP sensor) and I wanted to see if there is a way to diagnose exactly what this is before replacing parts. From reading on this and other sites, looks like the MAP sensor is integral with the EGR valve. Can anyone confirm?

And, if all vacuum lines are connected and electrical connection at EGR ok, does this mean EGR/MAP assembly needs to be replaced or could there be something else going on?

I don't want to spend $100 on a new EGR only to find that was not the problem.

Car runs fine but does spark knock/detonate at lower speeds light throttle which could indicate non-functional EGR. But if EGR bad, why not a code for EGR, not MAP?

Delete the EGR.

I would but don't have a programmer to keep code from coming up and we have to pass emissions tests. Also, I had a non-computer car years ago and when I removed the EGR, car detonated/pinged on the highway like mad.
