Getting ready to do timing chain guides and tensioners, figure I should replace the oil pump while I’m in there. Which pump should I get for a high mileage FI car? 161,000 miles. Seems like billet steel gears, high volume and high pressure would be desired, so Melling 10227? Or would the MMR product be better? Can we use a pump intended for the 5.4L 3-valve mod motor? I read somewhere the blocks are the same, but the dimensions of the 3-valve pump body are larger so I don’t know if they would fit (Melling 360HV or billet equivalent, I think it’s the 10341).

you dont want a high prea or high vol oil pump. a stock replacement is fine and has plenty capacity no problem

billet gears are for high rpms

you do not need a high pres or high vol oil pump and I wouldnt recommend them for anything other than a race car which has extremely loose tolerances

I used a FRPP oil pump.

FRPP or Melling is fine.

I would think the main thing is to get an oil pump with solid steel gears instead of the powered metal ones.
