Wow - fun time on the way home.

On the way home from the exhaust shop (exhaust story is coming when I have the time to type it all up - hopefully complete with results on gains). TooManyFords and I are both in our MMs. John picked me up and drove me to get my car which had the finishing touches put on the Reinhart exhaust system done today (again, will tell later).

As I am heading up the 6-lane University Avenue in the middle lane with TMF in tow, what should pull up next to me on the left but a 1996 Maroon Impala SS. I have a witness, so I can be honest.

The SS driver and I grinned at each other and I stomped it when the light changed - don't think he did. At the next light we both knew what was up, though. I happen to glance around and see John has pulled next to me in the right lane, so now I have an SS on my left and a MM on my right.

The light goes green.

Both of us smoked him, and handily. The race was over in 60 feet. John had a car and half on me by the "end" (must be those 4.30s he's running and I wonder if his trunk is full of old exhaust parts and other crap, so I have my excuse) :P

My first comment at the next light to the Imp driver. "Hey, how does my exhaust sound?" I was actually serious but I see how that could have sounded like a taunt. I really did want to know however. :baaa:

The Imp driver and his passenger both were cheering us on. "Man, Awesome Marauders!" and I complimented how nice I thought his car was. I have always liked the SS.

So after I visit TMF's lift so I can get some exhaust pics (again, later) I am on the way home. What should pull by me but a Dodge Magnum RT with dealer plates and two guys in shirt and tie. I'm thinking "test drive." OK, I can get home a bit later.

He stomped on it a couple times, but I was always right behind him until traffic allowed me to get next to him.

Never did hit a light with him, but I did have the chance to leave him well in my rearview mirror on the highway with him doing some pulling. I pulled around him and beat him to his exit, after which I turned right and he turned left back into the dealership.

I wonder if he bought the car? :nono:

I needed this today. Tomorrow is dedicated to wash and wax for my second child.

Oh, and I have now beaten all of the cars that were supposed competitors to our MMs when I was shopping last year. Altima, Accord, 300C, Magnum, Impala SS, Mazda 6 even. What a great car we have.

Theres a cocky guy in town with an SS. He stared me down yesterday...but I'm thinking he's still angry from me arresting him a few years back for theft  Although I don't think he knew it was me til he passed in front of me at a light.

..ahem.. I'd like to think of it as "talented driving", but what the hey! ;)

I've been waiting 6 months to line up with that Maroon SS. Seems like every time I spy him we're going the wrong way or just can't sync the lights. Super nice guy too! Now he really knows what the MM can do!

And Andrew's car does sound nice. Kudos!

Great story Andrew, did you have the 18" Magnaflows installed too?

And keep up the good work smoking the so called competition. :burnout:

Great story. Only 3 SSs in town here, have yet to come across one in the MM.

Yes, 18" Magnaflows were installed as well. I am solid steel 2.5" all the way back now. Doesn't bend as well around the axle, but it's damn near indestructible.

Part # 14356 complete with lifetime warranty. 2.5" in/out with center/offset.

Having recently test driven both the MM and Magnum RT, I think they are pretty close in go power. The difference is the gearing. The RT has 2.83 rear end trying to get more MPG. The two other models (v6) have a 3.90 rear gear. The Magnum with the 3.90 rear gear installed would be tough to beat. I chose the MM for its uniqueness. Next year at this time there will be 1,000s of Magnums out there, but still few and usually far between MMs. I will have only the second in our county, third in the area. The other two are black and theres another 04 for sale locally, also black (the one I tested). So with the DTR I'm all alone. Kinda like the ZX3 I'm trading, not another one in the area like it.

I like the Magnum and even have respect for the SS, and as long as the other drivers are as cool as the guy in the SS sounds, it's all in fun. But the cocky ones need to be dealt with... Great story duhtroll!
