Is the verdict that if we go with the PI Stallion 3000rpm single plate torque converter.... that we need to use the OEM style Mercon trans fluids?? Does the Reinhart Transmission upgrade kit Level1 or stage1 which ever it is called change any fluid requirements beyond the OEM mercon??

I dunno about Dennis's trans upgrade as far as fluid requirements, but as far as the Stallion Torque converter, it doesn't say anything in the instruction booklet about the need for different transmission fluid, and so I've been using the OEM fluid that comes in our cars fromthe factory. If you're concerned about that, then you should call precision Industries. Here's their website address

PI told me directly that certain synthetics are fine.
What I later learned was that if you are gonna drive this car hard, and wnat to avoid slippage, to stick with old faithfull, Motorcraft Mercon-V.
And that's what I inevitably have done.....
Anybody want to buy 16 qts. of Royal Purple Max ATF...?:baaa:

Whatever fluid you put in the transmission also ends up going in the converter. In other words, the transmission and the converter share the same fluid.

It's been my experience with two Stallions, (one single plate, one triple plate) that they are very fussy on fluids, and behave their best on Merkon V...Which BTW, happens to be the least expensive of the fluid choices available.
Likewise as it is with my engine oil, I change tranny fluid frequently, like every 10-12K. Best fluid is clean fluid IMHO, and if anything can make tranny fluid break down faster than expected, it's a 9" Stallion TC in a 4400 pound car, with juveniles like us on the throttle...

YES!!! I agree exactly w/what MAC said. I also have every intention of changing the transmission fluid changed every 10K. I only have 14K on the car now, and I've already had it changed. I'll have it changed again by the time the odometer hits 20K.
