VIN on block?

Where would I find the VIN numer on the engine block? I was hoping to run it on my carfax account and maybe get an idea regarding the possible mileage. It's a used motor a friend wants to buy and the mileage is a mystery.

I suggest you look into having an oil test done.

Easy answer, there isn’t a VIN on the block.

That would explain why I could not find it. He bought the motor it's complete, I suggested he replace the tensioners and guides at minimum.
