View Full Version : Need some help...question about the front windows

Part number for the window regulator for both driver and passenger front windows? Both of my front windows have become inop (passenger side several months ago, drivers side today) and I tried searching w/o much luck. Also, are these interchangeable as in one can be used for either driver or passenger? I ask because I know the passenger side needs a regulator (took it to Ford and they wanted $565 to fix...I said NOPE), but it's possible the drivers side window is just off track. Was thinking I could buy one regulator and if it turns out the drivers side window is just off track then I can use the regulator to fix the passenger side; if the drivers side does needs a regulator then I can just get another one for the passenger side.

Thanks,

KG

They're inexpensive.

And $565 for the job is a rip-off.

Replacement of 1 is about 30 minutes so with a 1hr minimum the price should have bee under $250.

Per side by the book:

Left: $77.36 list
Right: $65.56 list
Labor book time per side: 1.2 hours
Shop materials/environmental fees
Tax.

They were out of line and awe fully ballsy considering this can be found easily in today’s times.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I knew the dealership was gonna try and rip me off; the main reason I took my car there was so they could get my window back into it's fully closed position. I knew whatever price they quoted me would be high, but was really surprised at how high the quote was. I did come across the invoice from that trip last night after I posted my message and the $565 included the $99 diagnostic fee they hit me with just to look at the car, so it would have cost $465 to fix the window. Seeing the invoice reminded me that when I went to pay the diagnostic fee, they tried to charge me twice for it...lol. At any rate, I had Russ (mmmonroe03) replace the regulators in both rear windows several years ago and remember the parts being fairly inexpensive, so when they called and gave me the quote I told them not to do anything and that I'd be there in an hour to pick my car up.

What source do you guys use to look up these part numbers? Would like to be able to look this stuff up myself when needed. Thanks again!

Edit: Nevermind about the source...just now spotted it right under the part number....HUR DUR, I AM SOFA KING WEE TAH DID...

I use regulator / motor assemblies from A1 Auto (https://www.1aauto.com/2004-mercury-marauder-interior/y-mo-c/2004-479-510).

I suggest you get the entire assembly.

If you want to make the drive to the Triangle I'll install them for $100.00 (each) labor.

The regulators are specific to the front & rear left & right side. You cannot swap them to either side nor between the front and rear.

It's been my experience on my own car and many other Panther-class cars that the regulator will stop working when your trying to raise or lower the window. It's nearly impossible for the window to come off the track.

PM or respond here if you have any questions.

Today I drove 40 miles (one way) to the dealership nearest me that had a regulator in stock; $70. While I could have gotten it online for cheaper, Tasca wanted $22 for shipping, which brought the total close to $70; Amazon had free shipping, of course, but delivery dates for both Tasca and Amazon were Sept 3rd - 9th, so I just decided to make the drive today to have the part in hand. I have an appointment at a shop near me Friday morning where they will take a look at it and let me know what is actually wrong with the window and if it does need a regulator see if they can fix it.

Got the regulator/window fixed. Also had an oil change and asked to have car inspected; he wouldn't pass my car due to my tint...legal limit is 32% and he said my tint is at 29%. Grrr....car has passed every year since I had it tinted 7 years ago just fine. I would prefer to NOT have to remove tint because of 3 silly percentage points. I could understand if I had limo tint, but damn...it's just 3% off!!!

Knowing that there's factory tint, that's the reason I had 38% tint installed back in 2003 when I lived NC.

I was aware the car had factory tint. The tint I had installed was 35% and the place that did it said the factory tint would knock it down 2 or 3 points, but apparently it's more like 6. Also, I've been living in and have had the car inspected yearly in NC since the tint was installed in 2013. Previous shop in Asheville wasn't concerned about 3% it appears...guess I need to find one around here.
