I am changing out only my 03MM Exhaust Manifolds.

The dealer said at first today it takes 8.8 hrs., then another service
tech. looks further and says 3 hrs. Also says they break off the studs
and I should put new ones on.
Do I need to? I think he ment on CV's

As far as I can tell from the manual --- it should go alot faster ???
Am I missing anything?

1. Take down cats. 4 nuts.
2. Take off 16 manifold nuts plus EGR connecton.
3. Drop down manifolds & heat shield --- Do we have to move any other
parts to get them down ??? ( They don't have any idea but think there
must be more to do )
4 Remove gaskets and replace.
5. Install replacement manifolds & shield (these all are an EXACT match & fit)
6. Put nuts back on manifolds and cats.
Done!

Does this really take 3 hrs. or 1 hr.??? Thanks,

WarrenB :D

Can't say if this matches your task, but installing the Reinhart Cobra exhaust system took me (and Zack) two hours. This is R&R of the exhaust manifolds, plus adding the one piece exhaust pipe assembly, with cats and X pipe in place. Nothing had to be "broken off," and things got easier once the AC pump was moved out of the way.

as far as the actual time it takes to do a particular job, the industry goes
by book time listed in Chiltons Motor Guide, ect. if the job pays 3 hours
and the tech does it in 2 hours, he gets paid for 3. techs are not
penalized for having the experience, tools , and knowledge to do a job. its
not the "time" it takes to turn a screw- its knowing which one to turn and
in what order- roadpig

I think it took more like 3 with John and I. Of course, I was more of a hindrance than a help to the effort since I learn all of this as we went.

The end result is awfully nice, though. :banana2:

When I put my Kook's long tube headers on, it only took 3 hours and I had to loosen the motor mounts and lift the motor to do it. Anyone who tells you it'll take 8.8 hours either a). is not qualified to do the job, or; b) is trying to screw you, or; c) both. Three (3) hours sounds reasonable for a shop.
