On I-20 west of Columbia, SC yesterday I moved over to let a BMW running about 100 MPH get by!! He pulled in front of me in about 50 feet and slung a damn rock.....BAM.....a "star" that ran across the whole glass!!! :uzi: :mad2:
I called the insurance company and the installer called back in about 30 minutes to set up for today!! :bows: They will call about 9:00 this morning to tell me about what time they will arrive......Hope it goes well and they don't screw up my "BABY"!!!
On most of my new cars this has happened within 6 months...I made it 7 this time!! :o

Jack, when you get it replaced, see if you can find out exactly how much the Marauder windsields cost. I know somebody who had their Marauder windshield replaced as a result of a similar incident, and the glass place told him that it costs $800!!!!!!
But I'm thinking that the place in question simply raised the price since that person's insurance was paying for it. I'm just curious though.

Will do.....They did have to order it though!! It is the same size as the CV glass but a lot more black and dots on it?? ;)
I'll bet we will all find out that replacement stuff on these cars will be high priced and maybe hard to find??
Marauderjack :alone:
PS: If I'd have been in your car.....I might have tried????......Naaaa!!! :D

Sorry to hear about that. Did you check to make sure that no other rocks hit the car itself and scratched the paint?

Mine got a rock on the way to Tunica, cracked it just enough to make it unrepairable. Caled K&M glass here in Huntsville, they told me OEM glass installed on the Marauder would be $218. I'm going to wait awhile to get it fixed with all the road work going on between home and work

I saw the dang rock and it followed the hood curve like it was smoke in a wind tunnel!! About 3" above the hood and BAM.... :censor:

I had a sign slap my windshield!! it didn't bust it out, but it scratched it so bad you couldn't see through it when the sun hit it!!!
Total Cost for OEM windshield and labor = $320.00

And with those it could very well be cheaper in the long run to pay for it yourself rather than submit the claim. Just a thought. If it's only a couple hundred $ then it's worth it.

I agree. A claim is a clain no matter how small or how large. Some companies will dump you with a certain # of claims within a time frame of a year. :(

Ask for a replacement windshield
for a 2003 Marauder (300A) the windshield
has the old type dark blue tint, instead
of those little lines of crappy dots!
Gotta Love It! :rasta:

I think it was worth it just to pay it out-of-pocket! Insurance companies seem to treat you better at renewal time when you haven't filed any claims!

When you go to the Glass Shop, they will ask you if you are paying in cash or through your insurance.
They charge the Insurance company the MSRP for the glass and the labor.
If you tell them cash, the price is about 25% of the insurance price,
and it is usually just about the same price as your deductible or less.
Why the difference ?
Marty can probably vouch for this...
By the time they bill your insurance company and get paid for it,
all of the additional costs involved go into administrative charges for the paperwork and bill tracking.
Paying cash up front gets the job done and paid for in the same day.

List price on the replacement glass is $873.00!!!
Labor charge was $150.00......The guy does as many as 13 a day!! Takes about 20 minutes from start to finish!!
My insurance company will not raise rates for windshields!!
Three things that will cause your premiums to increase (in SC) are:
1. Liability claim over $1000.00
2. Collision claim over $1000.00
3. Questionable credit rating.....Poor credit stereotypes you as a fraud risk!!
Marauderjack :D
BTW: I was cringing while I watched the guy deface my BABY!! :bigcry: But all went well and I think the new install is as good or better than factory!!

Jack - What ins. co. do you have? Most would consider glass a claim.

Windsor Insurance Company.....Never had a rate increase with them or State Farm!!
I have had dozens of windshields replaced over the years without questions or increases....at least not that I could tell??

In Florida by state law all insured vehicles will have the windshield replaced or repaired at no charge $0 deductible, regardless of your coverage, leaves no excuse for drivers driving around with cracked windshield, which is against state law.

I think every state has the same law, it is part of the Safety Inspection.
The NO CHARGE / ZERO DEDUCTIBLE is questionable though.
I've got an uncle in Port St. Lucie and he has never heard fo this.

Glass in vehicles is covered up to $999 without an increase in your premium.
Anything over $999 is your dime...
Your premium WILL be affected and they WILL recover the cost before dropping you.
Rear window on a Focus Wagon is $1700 !!!
Try putting that through your insurance company without an increase...
Most insurance companies are attemptin to reduce RISK by reveiwing customer records.
Tenure and payment history has NOTHING to do their review.
They look for X number of claims in Y years.
If you fit the parameters, you're out and there is NOTHING your agent can do to get you back in.
It happened with my homeowners insurance.
State Farm ditched me after 6 years because I had 2 claims in 5 years.
Parameter was anything more than 1 claim in 5 years.
Good thing they did, because they did me a favor.
I got a new policy with Met Life for MORE coverage at HALF of the cost of State Farm !!!!
I am now looking to transfer over my Auto policy because they are CHEAPER than Travelers !!!
And get this...
Insurance companies are also looking at your CREDIT HISTORY !!!
Good to excellent credit gets LOWER RATES !
POOR CREDIT get HIGHER RATES !!!
WHY ?
They say that customers with poor to bad credit are more likely to put in a claim than someone with Good to Excellent credit !
Makes no sense to me...
Also your GPA makes a difference as well.
If you graduated College with a 4.0 you get the best rates around.
If you have a 3.5 you pay MORE for the same insurance.
Same stupidity...
Highly Intelligent customers are less likely to put in a claim than those of us with average, below average, or artificial intelligence...
This is legal discrimination...

Where did you get that number?!!!
My sources, including The Dealer on this site, tell me retail is around $264.
Got mine replaced earlier this month for $90 for the PPG glass. The Carlite was $300.

Was that for a Marauder windshield? Marauders have a windshield that's different than the regular Grand Marquis glass.
I dunno. It is different glass but it is keeping the BUGS outta my teeth!

Smokie,
He hasn't had the unfortunate task of having to replace his windsheild or any other glass, but he was not aware of this at all.
Now I just have to make sure that he has the coverage FOR glass, and how much $$ he is paying for it.
Thanks for the info !

You are welcome ! If your uncle carries collision coverage sometimes known as full coverage he will have a deductible that is picked by him. If something ever goes wrong with his windshield by state law he is entitled to a free replacement zero deductible. He does not pay separately for this glass coverage, it is automatic in Florida. I am sure it is added to the total cost of all policies since nothing is truly for free.;)

The $873.00 number came from the tech who replaced it?? He said it is just a price used for comparisons and that if I was paying "out of pocket" it would be much less!! :depress:
Surely the insurance company doesn't pay list...do they??
