Would you take a chance on a two owner,no accident 03 MM with 150,000 miles? Some new front end and brake parts installed. Interior is in good shape. The roof has clear coat issues. Car is running and driving....Would you take a shot at it for $5K? Car is about 700 miles away.

Photos go a long way! I know it's a marauder but people buy with photos

Maybe someone who lives near it could take a closer look for you. Where is it?

Yes if you have the ability and logistics to part it out. Any MM is worth far more than $5k in parts so if you got it and it turns out to be a dud, part it out.

Fair price. If I sold my silver with minor upgrades and 177,000 miles I’d ask $11,000

Clear coat issues means it sits out, or sat outside most of its life, or lives in a harsh area. If the car is up north, no, hard pass. If its close to the ocean, hard pass.

I took cash for a local car, complete pile of garbage and he wanted $7500 for it, it may have been a $3000 car, but needed everything.

So i was on the hunt for a daily blue, bought one, it was too nice. Found another daily blue only 230 miles away and bought it for a great price, ive put 5000 miles on it and just needed tires and serpentine accessories so far. Car isnt perfect, 134k blue with flint interior, nice paint, mint interior for 6 grand.

Personally, if you are actually looking at one that far away, make sure you ask for alllllll the defects, because how shady people are selling these cars is presenting the car as super nice, because thats all they take pictures of.... is the nice parts.. Ask for all the paint issues, ask for pictures of rust. If they say it has rust, ASK FOR PHOTOS of the spots... IF they dont send the info, hard pass..

I looked at the local one, guy said it had great paint... showed me a few spider cracks in the roof, some decent photos.. i was impressed.
I get out there, there is primer on the OTHER SIDE of the car, clearly primer area about 3 feet, bumpers were both wacked and split paint, cigarette burns in the leather, looked like it wasnt ever cleaned since 2003...
Guy tells me he paid $7500 and just looking to get his money back, i ask whats his bottom dollar. He says 7...
Guy was trying to get me to buy it at 7 and i didnt even make a offer since we were so far apart in price.

Search high and low local, you will come out in the long run.

Clear coat issues means it sits out, or sat outside most of its life, or lives in a harsh area. Not necessarily. The first few hundred '03 Marauders were well-known for clearcoat issues on the roof and hood, regardless of care or environment. My car was well-maintained prior to purchase but still fell in this group, needing a roof and hood respray by 86k miles.

I would not have sold my car with the clearcoat issues described for any less than $5k back then, and still wouldn't now. I'd have to see the particular car you're speaking of to see just how bad the clearcoat is, but the price sounds fair.

And just to clarify not all of the early models flaked. Mine was a June build and is perfect. However it has had wax on it from the beginning and lives a sheltered life in a garage.

Correct and thanks for clarifying.
I did not mean to imply that ALL early '03s had the issue, just that it was a well-known issue for the early '03s. That plant certainly had a few notable paint issues over the years. :shake:

I would shake the hand of the man who could buy the car described in the OP for 5 grand and turn a profit parting it out.

Its getting increasingly difficult to part these cars out when your main source of parts sales are poor ass crown vic owners who want to low ball you on everything.

Yes they all are prone to crack and split, but the condition worsens if the car is in a harsh environment or kept outside.
My mom has a 215k black June build and it was a daily, but surprisingly it was garaged for most of its life..

it has check marks on the roof, I’m sure it would look so much worse if it went through a few winters up in MASS, my lord some of those roofs look like the paint is peeling up so bad that the roof needs a whole new skin due to rust..

At least black paint sticks to the car, blue tends to fall right off the panel!!

A running driveline and the headlights/floormats (if they are in good shape)will bring at least $3000+. Have you seen the prices this stuff is bringing on ebay? $400/$500 for floormats?!?

I'm aware of the clearcoat issues...Is there a kind hearted soul out there that has a Carfax account and willing to run this Vin#..?2MEHM75VX3X634599..Than ks:)

I would ask for pictures. If the car runs good and you want a Marauder, I would grab it. My 262k black needs a paint job badly. My roof has small rust spots starting to show. The paint on the trunk is cracking. The hood has 2 spots where there is no clear coat at all.
It’s lived outside its entire life.

Good to hear you are back in another marauder. Have safe travels!!
this past September I drove back from California to Kansas/Missouri and a whole bunch of rest stops and random bathrooms are closed at gas stations. So be prepared for rest stops at odd places, generally most will be closed for covid.. might hold back on that coffee and gulp 44 drink.

These folks move 20 or more cars a year for me and are at a cheaper price point, just not the service level of Reliable.
